If you're off for a riverside hol anywhere in la France, it should certainly be the Loir.

Proximity to the Loir valley is fairly fab too (pour les châteaux, and other attractions like troglodyte cave houses), and then there's Loir river fishing, canoeing, bike trails – and wherever you are in the land it's mighty fine to be within strolling distance of town and a swish boulangerie too…

That boulangerie is in Durtal and that Loir location is under 10 minutes' amble from town at Camping Les Portes de Anjou, a green and scenic Maine-et-Loire site next to the river. As befits such a strategic waterside setting, you can fish straight from the site here, as well as hire canoes to drift off down the river. The GR 35 hiking trail is accessible from the Portes de Anjou grounds.

Around the site, there's stacks to do for all ages, including a big playground with a trampoline and table tennis. There's also an indoor games room with table football, pool and pinball, plus a pétanque court and bike hire.

In high season (July and August), take to the water at the site's open-air pool complex, which is made up of a main pool and a paddling area. The complex (which is open to the public throughout the summer holidays) is directly accessible from the campsite. For meals or drinks, you can either order bits to take away or head to the bar (open every evening in July and August). Fresh bread and pastries are also available for delivery every day in July and August.

喜欢：	Spacious, looked clean.
不喜欢：	Couldn’t get in, pitchup booking said reception was manned from 12:00 but no one there. Code on reception window didn’t work on the barrier so we had no choice but to leave. Need to send updated access code via pitchup or email and change it at reception. Obviously won’t get deposit back but hey c’est la vie!

喜欢：	Beautiful setting, lovely roomy private pitch right by the river and the gorgeous town of Durtal only moments away on foot. Good clean facilities. Husband particularly liked the washing up area!

喜欢：	Superb campsite on the banks of the Loire. Direct access via a gate to the riverbank. If fishing licences are available from the reception. Very friendly staff . Short walk into Durtal do bars restaurants etc are close by.

喜欢：

Great peaceful location next to the river, lovely walk along the river to the little town. The playground was good and my little boy loved the trampoline. The ground in play area is little stones not sand or soft ground, fine for older kids but my 1 year old just wanted to put them in her mouth which was abit of a nightmare. But she enjoyed the rocking squirrel and the little hut. Friendly staff and facilities were clean. Would stay again earlier in the summer.

This is more our own fault for not realising but as we came in the first week of September the swimming pool wasn’t open, or the snack bar for food on site and you couldn’t order pastries for the morning. Last one not a big deal as the bakery if not far at all. Also pitch up mentions a ‘huge covered soft play area’ as well as the playground, we couldn’t find the soft play and asked at reception but they weren’t sure what I meant so I said indoor play for children and they said no not really only a little games room. Which they did open for us and my son liked the table football and pinball machine. So not sure if there is a soft play and we just had mis-communication and couldn’t find it or if it’s a mistake on the description of the site.

Easy entry via reception. Friendly staff who spoke good English ! Pitches divided by trees , ours was overlooking the Loire , really spacious and flat. Facilities very clean , very French mixed toilets. Urinal outside the cubicles 🤨There is on site cafe/ bar. Children's play area with trampoline It’s set in a very French town Durtal. Beautiful buildings. Nice bike ride along the river . Supermarket 20 min walk away Super U if needed.

After fishing, canoeing and sampling a wide selection of pastries in town, set off from the Portes de Anjou grounds on the GR 35 trail for a stroll or hike. You're well placed too for woodland walks in the forest of Chambiers, within about 10 minutes by car or 40 minutes by foot, and around the spectacular 11th-century Château de Durtal, under a kilometre away.

Then take off on a châteaux trip, to the Château de Baugé, 20 minutes' drive away, and the Château d'Angers, 30 minutes away in Angers.

The zoo at La Flèche is 20 minutes from the site.
