  • Buzzy family-friendly site 10 minutes' drive from Opal Coast beaches
  • A 15-minute drive to Boulogne-sur-Mer; half an hour to Le Touquet
  • Activities and entertainment on site for all ages, plus snack bar
Off to the Opal Coast in search of lovely beaches, elegant seaside towns and lots of outdoor activities? About 15 minutes’ drive south of Boulogne-sur-Mer and surrounded by the wonderful scenery of the Caps et Marais d’Opale Regional Natural Park, Camping Les Cytises makes a great base for a break in this gorgeous part of Nord-Pas-de-Calais. This is a green and tree-filled site with plenty of space to relax in between your outings and activities – and what a lot of choice there is for those, with beaches about 10 minutes’ drive away, plus châteaux, amusement parks, museums and historic towns to explore… not to mention all the forest walks and seaside watersports. Not that you have to leave the site to find something to do – there’s a lively buzz at this family-friendly site, with things like a trampoline, a mini climbing wall and a multisports court as well as two playgrounds. Grownups needn’t feel left out, as they can play pétanque, darts and other games. There’s also a busy programme of activities and entertainment for all ages here – from daytime kids’ club sessions to family-friendly karaoke and disco evenings. And to help fuel all of that, you can pick up drinks and light meals from the snack bar (which is also home to a ‘fan zone’ where you can gather to watch sporting events).

Local attractions

It’s a short drive from the site to the Opal Coast itself, where you may like to see the soaring cliffs at Cap Blanc-Nez (half an hour’s drive), admire the Belle Époque architecture in Le Touquet (half an hour) or saunter through the dunes to the beach at Équihen-Plage (10 minutes) for days of swimming, fishing and sand yachting. Boulogne-sur-Mer (15 minutes) is your nearest sizeable town, and well worth a visit for its Old Town, its street art and its other attractions, including the Nausicaá aquarium, École-Musée de Boulogne-sur-Mer and Musée maritime Argos. There’s also a tasty food scene going on, with market stalls and harbourside restaurants serving up local seafood. Turning inland, you may like to combine a visit to the Château d’Hardelot (15 minutes), with a walk in Hardelot Forest, visit the Museum of Ceramics in Desvres (20 minutes) or get your legs pumping at the Safari Rail Aventure (35 minutes). You’ll also want to put Parc Bagatelle (35 minutes) on your list if you’ve got younger kids.
