  • Midi-Pyrénées family site near the Lot river in Cajarc
  • Saint-Cirq-Lapopie 25 minutes' drive; 45 minutes to Cahors
  • Summer swimming pool and watersports centre within 10 minutes' walk
An attractive rural location in a natural park or near a river is a wonderful thing for a holiday – but then so is a convenient spot close to the amenities of a town centre. How handy it is then that Camping Le Terriol manages all three: this Midi-Pyrénées site is in the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park, close to the banks of the Lot river and only about 250 metres from the centre of the small town of Cajarc. All of that adds up to a mighty fine base for a family break – you’ll easily be able to get out for walks, watersports and other outdoor activities in the lovely local landscapes, and just as easily pop into town to find restaurants or pick up supplies in the shops. Handily, the local community pool is also only about 150 metres away; the two pools (a main pool and a kids' pool) are open every afternoon through July and August. Lake and river swimming are close by too, along with a watersports/activity centre about 10 minutes’ walk away, but in fact you don’t have to leave the site to get a little bit of activity in. On-site facilities here include a volleyball/badminton court, table tennis and table football, along with a playground for the kids. Pétanque competitions and other family activities are offered in summer as well. Need a bit of chillout time instead? There’s also a library and a picnic/barbecue area where you can relax with an outdoor meal.

Local attractions

Taking a swim in the local pool (five minutes’ walk) is a good option for a warm day, but if you like something a little wilder there are a couple of great dipping spots close by. Both Sauliac-sur-Célé and Marcilhac-sur-Célé (both 20 minutes’ drive) have nice beach areas on the Célé river for general swims and splashing. If you’d like to explore further, sign up for various watersports (including canoeing, waterskiing and jetskiing) at the watersports centre in Cajarc (10 minutes’ walk). It’s not just watersports, either – the local area has options for caving, climbing, mountain biking and hiking. If that’s all a bit too much, don’t worry – fishing and boat cruises can be organised for more laidback days. The Lot region is dotted with lots of lovely towns and villages to visit as well – places to put on your list include Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (25 minutes’ drive), Figeac (half an hour) and the wine-producing Cahors (45 minutes). Rocamadour (an hour), spread across a cliffside, is well worth a trip too.
