  • Friendly green site at the foot of the Pyrenees
  • Five minutes' drive from Lourdes
  • Infrared sauna, restaurant and heated pool with mountain views
A serene and short drive from world-famed Lourdes, in a green and scenic setting at the foot of the Pyrenees… peaceful times are yours for the picking at welcoming and friendly Camping d'Arrouach. The biggest draw in this Hautes-Pyrénées setting is of course the pilgrimage site of Lourdes five minutes' drive away, a French tourist destination eclipsed only by Paris in the number of people who flock there each year (over six million, if you were pondering). But these mountainous surrounds have outdoor options and excursions for all tastes to get active at: leaf through the tourist information leaflets on site and the maps of walking and cycling trails, or ask the team to contact mountain guides to take you out on a trip, picking you up at the site. And after that? Camping d'Arrouach is well kitted out for less busy days too, whether you've tottered back somewhat tired after a day hiking the mountains, or have joined the throng at Lourdes (for it really can get rather busy there). Start off with a dip in the heated pool (open from mid-May to mid-October), grab a poolside lounger and enjoy the mountain views, or take some time to unwind in the infrared sauna. After that, wander along fully refreshed to the bistro, which has a tempting menu of pizzas and burgers as well as local dishes. It's also got a good range of drinks and hosts regular themed meals. There's also a meeting room and terrace with tables, for games and eats on less sunny days, and a communal barbecue area with picnic tables for dinner out of doors. The site reception sells all sorts of bits and bobs such as local produce, drinks, postcards and bread and pastries in the morning.

Liked: Beautiful views. Lovely clean site (apart from cats) Good toilets and showers

Disliked: Cats on the site which scent mark camping gear and steal food. Restaurant was closed and this information was not on the website so had not shopped for supper before we arrived only to be told that restaurant not open until second week in May.

From the manager: Dear Sue,

Thank you very much for your review and kind words about the beautiful views and the cleanliness of our site.
We’re sorry to hear that the presence of cats affected your experience. Just to clarify, the cats are not ours – they are strays from the surrounding area, often drawn in by guests feeding them, which we strongly advise against. We regularly remind visitors not to feed animals for exactly this reason.
Regarding the bistro: we do our best to communicate our opening dates clearly. The information is displayed on our Pitchup listing, on our official website, and in the welcome guide, which is also available online. Although we usually open the bistro and pool around mid-May, we actually opened both a week early this year — despite the low visitor numbers and unpredictable weather.
We hope you’ll consider staying with us again in the future, and we’d be happy to welcome you back during the full season for an even more complete experience.

Warm regards,
Anya

From the manager: Dear Joëlle,
Thank you so much for your lovely review!
We’re delighted to hear that you and your family enjoyed the goats, the children’s activities at reception, and of course the beautiful views. The nearby lake is indeed a gem, and we’re glad you had time to explore it.
It was a real pleasure to welcome you — we hope to see you again on a future family getaway in the Pyrenees!
Warm regards,
Anya

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Got a great pitch with awesome views. Not all as good as this. Friendly kittens on the scrounge for left overs.

Disliked: Only 4 toilet stalls and 3 showers, shared between all.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Sam,
Thank you for your review and for sharing your great photos — we're glad you enjoyed the view from your pitch and the peaceful atmosphere (including the curious kittens!).
Regarding the sanitary facilities: the number open during your stay complies with the official classification standards, which are based on the number of occupied pitches in low season. This allows us to maintain cleanliness and sustainability while still meeting demand.
We hope to welcome you back soon — perhaps during the high season, when the full range of facilities is open.

Best regards,
Anya

From the manager: Bonjour,

Bien cordialement,
Anya

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: There was a washing machine and a dryer(not very clean) and staff was generally friendly

Disliked: We got a pitch right next to the entrance to the campsite (nothing like was advertised with Mountain views etc) which had no privacy whatsoever and we found the campsite very crowded. Only three toilets for everyone staying there which we didn’t find enough as there was queues quite often.
Overall we don’t recommend and wouldn’t stay there again.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Absolutely fabulous! Staff so friendly and helpful. Site ideal for reaching Lourdes and other areas due to good local transport links so no need to drive everywhere. A great base for cycling/walking and sightseeing with added bonus of being eco/friendly. Great restaurant too!!
Will definitely return but for longer next time!

Disliked: Only slight downside was lack of water pressure in showers- possibly part of the eco drive - still perfectly functional!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Dear Dee,
Thank you so much for your fabulous review — it truly made our day!
We’re delighted that you enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, the convenience of local transport, and the eco-conscious spirit of the site. It’s great to hear that you made the most of the cycling and walking opportunities too!
You're absolutely right about the water pressure — it's part of our commitment to sustainability, ensuring responsible water usage without compromising comfort.
We’d be thrilled to welcome you back for a longer stay next time!

Warm regards,
Anya

Local attractions

Lourdes is the third most-visited Catholic pilgrimage destination in the world, after Rome and the Holy Land: the highlight is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, set around the Lourdes grotto with the Béout, Petit Jeri and Grand Jer peaks rising up behind. If this isn't your bag, heaps of hiking and cycling can be had in the surrounding mountains, on trails of all lengths and for most levels. Around Lourdes, take the Les Gaves greenway cycle route from Lourdes to Pierrefitte; the local stretch of the Piémont Trail or GR 78, or the Henry IV trail, linking Lourdes to Pau. A must while you're here is the funicular railway trip to the summit of the famed Pic du Jer, 950 metres up with spectacular views of the countryside below (you'll see the peak from Lourdes after dark, as its big cross is lit up once night falls). Take the walking trail at the summit to the observatory for those splendid views, stretching out over Lourdes, Tarbes, Pau, the Argelès Gazost valley and the peaks of the Pyrenees.
