  • Peaceful site on the river Dourbie, a five-minute drive from Nant
  • Millau 40 minutes’ drive; Méze an hour and 10 minutes
  • Dogs welcome; pétanque court and playground; nearby hiking trails
Forested hills as far as the eye can see, a pretty stone village (Nant) with a couple of restaurants, a farm shop and a weekly market within a 20-minute walk (or a five-minute drive), and the river Dourbie flowing calmly alongside the property – peaceful Camping des Deux Séquoias has a pretty privileged position in the rugged Larzac region. This is a top place to visit during the summer months, when the river lures you in for a spot of wild swimming or fishing and when the cool night-time temperatures (the property sits at an altitude of 500 metres) should ensure a peaceful rest. And there’s more: Agnès, who co-owns Camping des Deux Séquoias with her partner Franck, is a maths teacher, and in July and August she's available for private lessons, so if the kids have fallen behind with their homework she can probably help them get back on track. In between remedial maths, the kids can make new friends in the playground, take part in a game of pétanque or join you and the family dog on a walk along the banks of the Dourbie. Those who are up for something a bit more challenging can head into the hills: the site sits between the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park and Cévennes National Park, so there's no shortage of hiking trails in the local area. In addition to a toilet/shower block and washing-up area, the site has a handy communal freezer and a launderette.

Power optional grass campsite

Local attractions

There’s plenty for active guests in Millau (40 minutes’ drive), with canyoning excursions, via ferrata climbing routes, swimming and canoeing in the river Tarn, and guided half- or full-day hikes. Then there are the viewpoints, including several that give you uninterrupted vistas of the monumental Millau Viaduct, one of the world’s tallest bridges. East of Millau, the City of Stones of Montpellier-le-Vieux (40 minutes) is an area of distinctive rock formations with marked trails leading to vertiginous observation points, plus climbing routes, a miniature train and dedicated Zen areas with hammocks and deckchairs for meditating among the natural landscape. Head to the coast, stopping just outside Méze (an hour and 10 minutes) to check out the spectacularly preserved mosaics at the Gallo-Roman villa at Loupian. Méze sits on the Étang de Thau, a large lagoon that’s home to pink flamingoes and other birds.
