It's free, quick and easy!
- Spacious, well-equipped lodges on a rural site near Blaudeix
- Lake beaches, a château and a wolf sanctuary within a half-hour drive
- Six acres of space with playground and solar-heated swimming pool
Who knows what kind of day might you fancy while on hols? A château-visiting day? An active horse riding or cycling day? A food market munching day? Or maybe a chilled beach lounging day?
No need to decide too far in advance if you’re staying at La Coterie Lodges, a peaceful and petite place in the Creuse countryside, for all these are within easy reach to cater for your daily whims. Being in a hamlet with just a handful of houses, there’s a distinctly relaxed rural vibe going on at this six-acre site, but you’re not isolated from the wider world, as you’re within striking distance of several main routes out to the area’s attractions.
Best be adding lurking-about-on-site days to your list of choices, too, for it’s a mighty appealing option to spend a good chunk of time wandering around the gorgeous gardens and hanging out by the solar-heated swimming pool (with a cunning retractable cover to make this a possibility even outside of summer). There’s a small playground for les enfants, and plenty of space for them to run about.
For eats, pick up supplies as you roam the region to bring back to your lodge – each one has a well-equipped kitchen and a dining table, with comfy sofas and central heating to keep things cosy even in winter. Picnic tables and barbecues beckon for alfresco feasts on warmer days.

Route directions
Coming into Blaudeix from the N145, go over a small stone bridge and look for the signpost showing you are entering Blaudeix. Take an immediate left up the hill after the signpost. At the top of the hill turn left again, then follow the road round to the right towards Ladapeyre.
Take the first lane on the right, opposite number 26. (You will have passed two houses on the left, and a house and chalet on the right). Continue straight down the lane. At the first corner, continue straight on and pick up keys at house on the left with the green door. La Coterie Lodges is at 5 La Coterie, at the end of the lane.

Local attractions
Pack your swimmers, your bike, your walking shoes, your fishing kit… this area is known locally as Limousin’s lake district, and there’s plenty of scope for related activities. Chatelus-Malvaleix lake and Chenerailles lake are both within a 20-minute drive for beaches, swims and walks, with the larger Vassivière lake about an hour away.
Golf, horse riding and a treetop adventure park can be had within a half-hour drive of La Coterie, and there’s some good fishing at the area’s ponds or along its 3,000 kilometres of riverbank.
If your French sojourn is incomplete without a château visit, head to the 12th-century Château de Boussac, 20 minutes away by car, or the waterside Château de Crozant, 45 minutes away. Other day trips locally might include Les Loup des Chabrières wolf sanctuary, a walk around the Pierres de Jaumâtres rock formations or poking around in the markets of Guéret – all are within a half-hour drive.
