What a splendidly set site. Whatever you yearn to do on hol, you'll likely find it not far from the Pyrénées-Orientales site of Camping de l'Agly, between the Catalan Pyrénées Regional Natural Park and the Mediterranean coast. Rafting, hiking, kayaking and canyoning are all available a kilometre away (the site is close to the banks of the Agly river), and there's via ferrata climbing within a couple of kilometres, gorge hiking within five, and horse riding and mountain biking in the national park about 20 kilometres east. To the west within 40 kilometres are the beaches and watersports of Le Barcarès and Argelès, and yet more outdoor adventures in the huge Narbonne and Mediterranean regional nature park. If you seek a more sedate time, this is a land of peaceful pursuits too: you could hail the tourist train a kilometre away at Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet, or wander around the piles of old buildings in the region, such as the 18th-century church at Saint-Paul and the Cathar castles within easy driving distance. The spectacular rock formations of the Orgues d'Ille-sur-Tet aree within 30 minutes' drive. Back at base, it's all peaceful and scenic with plenty of pitch room among trees and mountain views. Communal facilities include a TV room, a play area and a pétanque court; there's also a big shower and toilet block, a drying room and a launderette. A swimming pool is half a kilometre away.

Local attractions

Kick off your holiday at Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet, for a look at its old church and access to the tourist train (peaceful) or as a starting point for kayaking, canyoning, rafting and caving (active). A via ferrata climbing route is a kilometre and a half away. More active days out in the region include canyoning in the Gorges de Galamus, a protected area among the limestone cliffs five kilometres away, horse riding and hiking in the Catalan Pyrénées Regional Natural Park, or watersports around the beaches of Barcarès, Leucate and Franqui or the Salses/Leucate lake. For a peaceful vibe, the Cathar castles of Château de Cubières and Château de Quéribus are six and 12 kilometres away, and the department capital Perpignan within 45 minutes' drive. You should also (really) see the fab rock formation of the Orgues d'Ille-sur-Tet, just outside the town of Ille-sur-Tet. If you want to explore the area's very ancient history, have a day at the Museum of Prehistory in Tautavel (20 kilometres), where you can say bonjour to Tautavel Man, the fossilised remains of a human ancestor around 450,000 years old.
