It's free, quick and easy!
- Family- and pet-friendly riverside site
- On the banks of the river Tarn near the famed Gorges du Tarn
- Pool, play area and mini-market
If you're taking a trip to see the Tarn river, you'll have a good run of area to pick from: this watery body runs for over 380 kilometres on its gushy meander from high up on Mont Lozère in the Cévennes to where it joins the Garonne just outside the town of Moissac.
And if you yearn to stay right by the river, have a look at Camping Le Terrados near the town of Les Vignes – where as an added massif bonus you'll be close to the spectacular Gorges du Tarn. And from the gorges to the Bramabiau abyss, between the Tarn and Mont Aigoual, and from there to the subterranean sights of the pink Dargilan, the biggest cave in the Causses and the Cévennes… Pack hiking boots, swimming togs and a torch.
Le Terrados has a pool to lazily float in/read by if you want to stay on site for languid days, a communal room and a play area, and a mini market selling foodie essentials as well as fresh bread and pastries for breakfasts – one may as well start a day of gorge, river and cave exploring on the right foot…
The site also has a launderette, and toilets and free hot showers suitable for disabled guests.

Local attractions
To the gorges first: the famed Gorges du Tarn are among the deepest in Europe and reckoned by the Camping Le Terrados team to be among the most scenic spots in all of France. Canoe or kayak on their waters, hike or mountain bike their surface, scale up them on a rocky adventure or – pour le brave – leap off a platform on a bungee rope into a gorge far far below.
Lying between the Tarn gorges and the highest part of the Gard in Mont Aigoual, the gorges and river of the Abime de Bramabiau or Bramabiau abyss are another famed regional spot for activities and yet more splendid scenery, reachable within about 25 kilometres of Le Terrados. Guided tours are available along its vast underground river.
More days of a rocky nature can be sorted at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Grotte du Dargilan, the pink cave making up a kilometre of passages and caverns filled with stalactites, stalagmites, stony columns and rushing waterfalls. If you reach them, leave some time to sit out on the stone benches of the terrace afterwards, for splendid scenes of the Black Causse edge of the Jonte gorges.
And if you're off village rambling (another tiptop holiday choice around these parts), try days at highly handsome locales like Montbrun, Castelbouc, Sainte Enimie and Florac, with its seventeenth century castle and teeny narrow streets.
