- On the banks of the Gardon river for swimming and fishing
- In the Cévennes National Park, under 1km from the village of Saumane
- Six kilometres from the Robert Louis Stevenson Trail
Swimming and fishing can be plunged into steps away from the Gardon riverside setting of Camping Le Verdier in the Cévennes National Park… but other highly attractive Gard options are nearby too, including the famed Robert Louis Stevenson Trail, and the spectacular Cévennes Steam Train from Saint-Jean-du-Gard to Anduze.
Both are within cycling distance of this family-friendly site, or you could venture further into the Cévennes for canoeing and horse riding, have an adrenalised day canyoning in the Canyon du Soucy, or have a simple car-based scale of mighty Mont Aigoual, the Gard's highest peak.
For days on site, there's a pool with sun loungers alongside, a playground and trampoline for the kids, and eats/drinks that are easily arranged at the grocery shop, the barbecue area or the bar and restaurant with takeaway and themed meals in high season.
Getting active, you can tackle pétanque, tennis and table football, feel competitive on the multisports pitch, play games in the communal lounge or join in with the summer activities: games and sports tournaments during the day and dances and entertainment in the evenings.
The village of Saumane is less than a kilometre away.

Local attractions
Swimming and fishing in the Gardon river next to the site are the first highly recommended pursuits from here; after that, lace up your boots made for walking and get along to the excellent Robert Louis Stevenson Trail six kilometres away, a long length of path among spectacular Cévennes countryside once traversed by the writer. With a donkey. (True: see the unmysteriously-named Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes to leaf through the tale.)
And speaking of the Cévennes. Ride the area's steam train from the nearby town of Saint-Jean-du-Gard (10 kilometres) another 10 kilometres or so to Anduze, a pretty medieval town with a Thursday morning market. Just outside town, the gardens at Cordeliers Parc are a top pick for a sunshiney day.
From Anduze, trot along to the Grotte de Trabuc (15 kilometres) and its sight of several thousand small 'soldiers' (structures like stalactites standing together). If you want to travel a bit further, the two spectacular settings of the Gorges de l'Ardeche and the Gorges du Tarn are within 50 kilometres of the cave's local town of Mialet.
Still hungry for more? Try a ride on the Vélorail des Cévennes (20 kilometres) or a trip to the Bambouseraie en Cévennes gardens (23 kilometres), or get that heart pumping on a canyoning adventure.
