It's free, quick and easy!
- 1960s-style retro site 700 metres from Goudargues village
- Vintage vibe and riverside setting with beach and swimming
- Waterfront areas, small bar and board games/books to borrow
Get to the Gard department for a 60s-style stay at Camping Rétro La Gambionne, for outdoor hols with a vintage vibe: the friendly team here have set the site up so that guests can (re)discover the atmosphere of the 1960s in a laidback setting with easy access to gentle pursuits.
It all sits close to a river with waterfront areas, a beach and swimming all accessible from the grounds for a swell time in the south of France, and all a 700-metre stroll from the canal-lined commune of Goudargues. If you’re looking to stay dry, other leisure options include pétanque parties, free borrowing of board games and books from reception, and a small bouvette bar for aperitifs and other drinks. Bread and pastries are sold fresh at reception every morning (order the night before).
Once your stomach’s satisfied, attention can be turned towards filling the rest of the day. Will it be a walk to Goudargues for a tour of the Chateau Saint Nabor vineyard? Or a visit to the Musée Albert-André, a contemporary art and archaeological museum in Bagnols-sur-Cèze 20 minutes' drive away? Maybe the ceramic village of Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie (25 minutes)...?
Whichever activities you amble towards, you can come back at the end of it all knowing the site’s got the functional stuff sorted with its laundry area, amenities block including toilets and hot showers, washing-up areas, washbasins and toilet block for guests with reduced mobility.

Local attractions
If you want wanders further than Goudargues, strolls around the Concluses Lussan gorge start from about 25 minutes away on the edges of Lussan village; trekkers can have a top time here walking through a moon-like landscape set against tall cliffs.
The Bamboo Cevennes about an hour’s drive away is another exotic place for meandering around a botanical garden specialising in (guess) bamboo. While this is a top spot in the area, one that’s a touch more famous is Pont du Gard (45 minutes’ drive), the towering three-tiered Roman aqueduct set over the Gardon River; head down to the banks to lounge on beaches and drench yourself in water.
If your sweet tooth’s nagging you to move on, head to the Haribo Candy Museum just outside Uzès (about half an hour) to stock up on sweets – great for chomping while reading about the history of the company’s production.
