  • Bordered by woodland among a wildflower meadow on the edge of Puivert
  • Near the Cathar Way walking trail plus Puivert's lake and beach
  • Lush gardens, outdoor pool and barbecue area
Broaden your Green Horizons and take some time out for a serene sojourn in the Haute Vallée, where the views are as splendid as the local cuisine... Within easy moseying distance of the site are a swimming lake and beach, plus a program of art- and music-themed activities for kids to get stuck into at the Quercorb Museum. Be sure to bring along your comfiest walking boots too, because you can also join the fab Cathar Way walking trail nearby for hikes among cor-inducing Cathar countryside to several of the area’s historic hotspots. Set on the outskirts of Puivert village among six acres of lush green park and woodland in the Languedoc province, Green Horizons Eco Glamping is a family-friendly site with a fair bit to do on days not sightseeing or outdoor-activity doing. There's a shared poolhouse bar and summer kitchen with built-in barbie for self-catered meals; kid’ on-site leisure time is sorted at the playground, where they can swing and squeal safely while grownups loll on poolside loungers with a book/tablet/their own meandering thoughts, or settle down for chilled spells among the site’s spectacularly lush and colourful gardens. For in between lazing, wanders around the meadow and through the woodland that borders the site are highly recommended, followed by (of course) more sitting around and sipping on local wines on the site’s the sunny terrace. The village shop and local farmers’ markets is where you can pick up fresh fruit, veg and a wide range of other regional foodie tidbits, and a couple of restaurants lie nearby in the local village if you’d rather leave the cooking to someone else.

Local attractions

Nearby there’s supervised swimming, a playground and a sandy beach at Puivert lake, or art- and music-themed activities at the Quercorb Museum, both an easy 15-minute amble from base. Also from right near the site you can join the Cathar Way walking trail to reach the best known of all the region’s castles – Château de Montségur – famed as the final stronghold of the Cathars, as well as several other spectacular historic sites. Eight kilometres away the kid-friendly medieval reenactments of Chalabre Castle take place too during July and August. The site’s Haute Vallée locale between the high Pyrenees (a tiptop ski spot) and the magnifique Mediterranean coast provides a varied landscape of lakes, rivers, foothills and forests for all sorts of outdoorsy opps, from skiing and snowboarding in winter to hiking, climbing, lake swimming, cycling, paragliding, horse riding, sailing, kayaking, whitewater rafting and caving the rest of the year round. Montbel Lake – one of Europe’s biggest watersports lakes – is also 20 minutes' drive from Puivert for water-based adventures. For wine and food aficionados, vineyards abound around the local area for wine tasting tours, and heaps of farmers’ markets are within easy driving distance too for sampling regional cheeses, meats, artisan breads and pastries, plus seeing colourful displays of locally grown (and seasonal) fruits and veggies. The city of Mirepoix and its medieval arcades, weekly market and cafés is a speedy half an hour's drive, while the ancient UNESCO-listed hilltop citadel of Carcassonne and the spectacular tree-lined Canal du Midi lie are a little further afield, around an hour’s drive away.
