Fancy trying something a bit different for your next holiday? Take a look at Les Jardins d’Angelo, a small Aude site with a collection of unusual accommodations scattered around a wooded garrigue garden in the village of Fontjoncouse.
The units here are all different in style and exact facilities, but what they do have in common is that each one is self-contained with its own private bathroom. Everything has been designed to be as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible to preserve the natural environment of this lovely garden. And that’s even true at the swimming pool, with chemical-free water surrounded by a wooden sun deck.
The pool is a lovely place to hang out with friends, family or fellow guests, and you may also find sociable moments happening at the shared outdoor kitchen, which has most of the bits you should need to whip up meals. Pick up supplies at the shops in Durban-Corbières (15 minutes' drive) or the award-winning market in Narbonne (40 minutes). Not in the mood to cook? There’s a smart restaurant a few minutes’ walk away in the village.
All in all, it’s a lovely place to relax – which is probably just as well, because there are heaps of activities to fill your days with around here. Climbing, watersports, hiking and mountain biking are all close by for active guests, and you’ll also be able to visit wineries, castles, nature reserves, historic towns and villages, beaches… it’s very unlikely you’ll ever run out of things to do in this area.

Local attractions
This site is within the Corbières-Fenouillèdes Regional Natural Park, so you know it’s got plenty of scenic walks and bike rides to try nearby. And those are not the only outdoor activities nearby – you may like to try watersports in Port Mahon (half an hour’s drive), horse riding and sand yachting in La Franqui (40 minutes), canyoning in Termes (45 minutes) or climbing in La Clape (an hour)
For swims, you can dip in the Lagrasse River, hit the beach in Leucate (40 minutes) or swim among the rock formations of Gorges du Gouleyrous (50 minutes). Lagoon areas around Peyriac-de-Mer (25 minutes) and Bages (35 minutes) are good for birdwatching, and there are several other nature reserves nearby for wildlife spotting.
There are lots of historic and cultural attractions around too – a few top picks include Fontfroide Abbey (25 minutes), the medieval village of Lagrasse (half an hour) and Château d’Aguilar (35 minutes). The Roman city of Narbonne (40 minutes) and medieval Carcassonne (50 minutes) are good day trip options too.
