Have fun by the river Seine

General

  • Riverside camping on the banks of the Seine
  • Multilingual team and many sports activities available
  • Close to popular attractions such as the gardens of Monet at Giverny

If you're the (sensible) sort to err towards riverside camping as a favoured hol in la belle France, at some point it'll have to be on the banks of the Seine.

Camping Caravaning Loisirs Des Groux is a sensible pick if so – not only has it direct access to France's famed watery spot for fishing, sailing and riverside strolls, its Yvelines department's locale has it within easy day trip distance of France's glittery capital: Paris river cruises on the Seine very much a must.

Other famed French attractions are within easy driving distance, like the gardens of Monet 15 minutes away at Giverny, many handsomely traditional French villages, and the spectacular varied landscapes of the vast Vexin Français Regional Nature Park, scenery so arty that it's inspired painty types like Cézanne and Van Gogh.

On site, the friendly multilingual team arranges regular tournaments of pétanque and volleyball and nights of barbecue and karaoke, as well as looking after the clean and comfy facilities of showers and toilet blocks, play area, launderette and a cute wooden reception where you can get help in French, English or German to plan your day trips to explore this lush land.

Camping Caravaning Loisirs Des Groux also has a small shop selling fresh bread and pastries, ice creams, hot and cold drinks and tasty local specialties.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Location is great with access to local sites, reasonable proximity to Paris and some local great walks and sights too - not least the river!

The on-site shop is small but well provisioned and the availability of small meals on request was a great bonus.

    Also motorbike friendly!

Lovely little campsite on the River Seine (so watch out for the heavy must in the morning). The facilities are indeed a little dated but I found them clean enough. Host is lovely and pitch was very generous. I only paid €27 for two nights with electric for a lovely shaded pitch so I wouldn’t have expected luxury facilities anyway. As someone said, there are a lot of ‘residential’ or seasonal pitches here but didn’t bother me.

Very peaceful location and easy to access Monet's Gardens, Paris, Versailles.

We were very warmly greated at reception, the owner was away and arrived on the following Monday and came and introduced her, what a lovely person it was difficult to know if she was French or English as her words did not have the usual French accent.

    Disliked:

The site could do with a big make over of the toilets and shower blocks, sad to say that they were dirty and very run down, We cleaned one toilet and shower our selves and always used the same during our short stay. Shame otherwise a nice site.

The location and very friendly staff.
Pitch size was good for us with a caravan and awning.
Monet's garden was only 20 minutes away and well worth a visit.
Palace of Versailles was just under 50 mins away. Amazing place but make sure you are prepared for a whole days visit!

    Disliked:

    The toilet/shower blocks!
It is more of a residential site than a touring.

The campaite was quiet and perfectly placed for a train ride to Paris from Bonnieres station. Trains were very regular and free car parking down the road from the station.

    Disliked:

The toilets were awful, they looked like they havent seen bleach in years, take loo roll too, it was not provided all the time. I have never seen such bad sanitary facilities. What a disappointment for such a sweet little site.

We stayed here for the proximity to Giverny and Monet's garden.
Tent pitch was comfortably large enough for our three tents, two cars and room to cook, play etc.
Small shop on site provides breakfast basics etc so really useful.
Washing up, loos and showers basic but all very adequate for a short stay.
We had a friendly welcome and no problem organising our stay.
You can walk out of the site to walk along by the Seine.

    Disliked:

Just a comment - It is quite a hard site to find without sat nav. Need to use a map and look carefully fro the signs as a couple are easy to miss.

Directions

Local attractions

What lovely and activity-filled land this is… Start off first with fishing on site into the River Seine, before ambles along its banks or taking a craft out on its waters: the Camping Caravaning Loisirs Des Groux team can point you in the right direction for boat hire and other watery activities along the river's banks.

Next up should be Giverny 15 minutes' drive away, to see Claude Monet's House and Gardens, the lush space where the artist lived for over 40 years and now a space for a flower garden and a Japanese water garden as well as a museum in Monet's former house.

Another beaut trip nearby is to the famed village of La-Roche-Guyon and its twelfth century château with aeons of history: it was the scene of a six-month siege after the Battle of Agincourt, and the site of General Rommel's defence of Normandy for the Allies in World War II. The fifteenth century Church of Saint-Samson in the village is also well worth a look.

The vast Vexin Français Regional Nature Park covers 71,000 hectares with over 800 kilometres of trails and bike paths among a handsome landscape of villages, forests, hills and rivers: visit the park centre in the Château deThéméricourt for info on it and its environment, and take a trip along the river Oise from the launching points at  Auvers-sur-Oise and back at La Roche-Guyon.
