  • Friendly and spacious holiday park in the grounds of a Norman château
  • By the River Seine, 15 minutes' drive from Château Gaillard or Gaillon
  • Direct river access, tennis court, miniature golf, fishing and bar
Sometimes, you've just got to treat yourself and swap daily life for a bit of 'la vie de château'… and that's where this friendly Upper Normandy site comes in. Set in stately home grounds, with a spread of quality facilities and direct access to the scenic River Seine, it's quite simply a top spot to put down roots in while on a break in northern France. As the name implies, Château de Bouafles is in the grounds of a rather handsome manor. There's an appropriately lordly range of amenities here, including a well-equipped laundry room, fresh morning bread deliveries daily (except Wednesdays), a bar, a games room and books to borrow. If your hands need a bit of rejuvenation after making use of the site's washing-up points, simply chat to reception about getting your nails done on site – yet another potential perk of staying here. Don’t worry, the rest of your body and mind are catered for as well – there's fishing in the river, a launch where boats and kayaks can be floated, a miniature golf course, a playground and a full-size tennis court to keep guests occupied. Away from base, you can spend your downtime exploring the local area's other châteaux (including the fine specimen 15 minutes' drive away at Gaillard), sailing up and down the Seine or simply browsing the weekly street markets in Gaillon (15 minutes), Vernon (20 minutes) or Louviers (25 minutes).

What customers say

Beautiful, well-kept campground with spacious, private spots. Guests love the friendly staff, clean facilities (including private bathrooms), and great pizzas at the bar. Perfect for Seine-side walks and cycling. Minor light/Wi-Fi glitches noted, but overall a fantastic stay, with many wanting to return.

Power optional grass and gravel campsite

Liked large plots with privacy ( hedging), helpful owners, great location for a trip to Monet's garden or an hours train into Paris from the local station (10 mins drive )
Used as a two night stopover on our way home from Pyrenees. Would use again.

Disliked The amenity block lights going out seconds after lighting up (Motion sensors ) Turning a shower into a bit of a weird experience.

Power optional grass and gravel campsite

Liked Not our usual more basic rural campsite, but having all the facilities was great and very welcome at this point of our travels. It’s in an interesting area and we enjoyed exploring. A wander around the site revealed the banks of the River Seine! and there is a cycle path which takes you out into the surrounding countryside. The food and cider went down well at the end of the day. Great washrooms too.

Powered grass and gravel campsite (Private restroom amenities)

Liked We stayed on VIP pitch with own facilities which was overlooking a meadow and the hills which was lovely. The site has a cycle route running through it giving excellent access to the Seine Vilo route. We used this to cycle both directions along the Seine. The Chateau has a nice terrace area which was good to sit and drink wine or beer and the Pinsa was great. The dog Tao was uninterested in the visitors. Gaillard Chateaux is within a nice walking distance we did a circular walk up through the forest and back along the cycle route. Les Anderleys is a nice town with grocery shops available

Disliked Our pitch was lovely however was let down through lack of weeding (lots of thistles) and mowing of lawn although the mowing did get done whilst we were there. The walk to the washing up area was about half a mile round trip and the bins were nearly round trip from our pitch. It would be worth thinking about adding additional bins or facilities down this end of the site. It wasn’t an issue but would have been if weather was bad.

From the manager: Thank you for your compliments.
Allow me to explain a few things:
Regarding weed control, all treatments are now banned in France, and even more so in rural areas. We are now moving towards more natural methods and doing away with lawns everywhere. We will have to tolerate weeds!
As for trash, the trucks only collect it from one location. If we put trash cans all over the campground, we will attract animals and odors, and we cannot collect trash every day. All you have to do is drop them off by car when you go for a walk or something else. Garbage is becoming a major social problem, and each of us must make an effort and soon start composting so that we have almost no waste! For us, garbage is a major concern.
Thank you for accepting these few explanations in good spirit.
See you soon.

Power optional grass and gravel campsite

Liked Probably one of the best sites we have stayed on. In terms of friendly welcoming site owners, it really does not get any better than this. The site is large, but all the pitches are very good, private and quiet.
The owner works extremely hard to make stay as good as it can be.
With a small bar, and a home made pizza service between 18:30 and 20:30, a resistance pool, hot tub, tennis courts (full list on the site) this really is highly recommended. Fantastic stay.
The owner could not have done more to make us feel welcome.

Disliked Absolutely nothing negative to say about this site. Highly recommended.

Power optional grass and gravel campsite

Liked The owners were very friendly, the toilet block very clean, the site in general was fantastic, large private pitches set in a beautiful location. Bar, pizza, games room all a bonus. I'll be coming back for a longer stay rather than just a one night stop off en route elsewhere.

Disliked Nothing

Power optional grass and gravel campsite

Liked Beautiful setting with mature planting creating lots of provacy. Park runs down to the river which is framed by weeping willows. Large pitches, large play area for the children and well stocked area of board games and free table football and pool for older children. Friendly team and very delicious locally made 'ready meals' you can buy. I wish we had stocked up on all of them. Clean toilets and showers. Great.

Disliked very little! The golf was a little tired but overall a very charming site. Hard to find any

Power optional grass and gravel campsite

Liked Well set up campsite, friendly staff, right on the river, large private pitches, very clean facilities with lots of games options for kids and a great little pizza kitchen for evenings

Disliked The only thing I would prefer but its not really a problem is centrally located washrooms, especially if the weather is less favorable, the village of Bouafles itself although pretty is void of anything, you have to traveling 5 mins by road, 45 mins by foot to the next town for restaurant and shop options, but these are not complaints we were prepared its just to help people with their research.

Liked Clean toilets and showers and very friendly owners and staff. Delicious pizza from the pizza van! The patio to sit and play games or chat is also lovely. Nice to go down to the Sienne and let dog swim there. A quiet campsite.

Local attractions

Get set for a bit of a climb and a lot of picture-snapping at Château Gaillard (15 minutes’ drive): the grand hilltop castle, the old stomping ground of Richard the Lionheart, has mind-boggling views over the River Seine. Évreux Cathedral (30 minutes) is another site of fancy – its sheer size enough to make your head spin. For a test of strength and bravery, battle the high ropes at Acroforest (40 minutes). Alternatively, head to Golf de Gaillon (15 minutes) for a gentler piece of the action. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped right into one of Monet’s paintings at his preserved home and gardens in Giverny (25 minutes). Once you’ve had your fill of fancy plants, make room for the other face of nature and greet the animals at Biotropica Zoo (35 minutes). If city living is more down your avenue, Rouen (40 minutes) and Paris (an hour and 15) aren’t out of reach. For families with kids, you can admire all the best French cities in miniature form at France Miniature (an hour), a good pick for little feet not fit to take on the real-life cities on foot.
