  • Peaceful glamping units among vineyards a kilometre from Angé
  • A 20-minute drive to ZooParc de Beauval and Château de Chenonceau
  • Several wineries within walking distance of the site
Those of you seeking an outdoorsy vineyard vacation may very well deem this Loir-et-Cher site a winner. Ready to pop, pour and soak up this pretty part of the world? Then make tracks for Le Clos des Epinettes, a small-scale glamping site with just a handful of units spread over 4,000 square metres of countryside. This is wine-producing country and – most handily for guests – there are several wineries within walking distance (thumbs up to the idea of a day of hiking punctuated by stops to sip wine, non?) If you’d like to explore the area’s viticulture further, there are plenty more vineyards dotted around the surrounding countryside within a drive of half an hour or so. And it’s also château country: those who’ve an eye for gorgeous buildings can fill many a day touring around places like Chenonceau, Montpoupon and the grand architecture of Amboise (half an hour’s drive away). The unusual accommodations here are geared towards couples and solo travellers, but the site will happily welcome larger family groups who’d like to hire a pair of units. A bathroom, toilets, a barbecue area and a kitchen are shared between all guests, and site staff can provide breakfasts for an extra charge if ordered a day ahead (a fine plan if you're setting out on/recovering from one of those wine-filled jaunts). Angé, a village with river walks and a small bar, is about a kilometre away. For the nearest supermarket, drive five minutes westwards towards Faverolles-sur-Cher.

Local attractions

Montrichard (10 minutes' drive) is your best bet if you're looking for a laidback local spot – here there's a river beach where you can swim as well as old half-timbered houses and a spooky castle dungeon to explore (gardens are on hand for calming strolls if you need a break from all those medieval atrocities). Larger châteaux can be seen close by in Montpoupon (15 minutes) and Chenonceau (20 minutes). Haven't the time for day-long drives spotting castles along the Loire? Try Parc des Mini-Châteaux (25 minutes), where you can tick off over 45 aristo abodes (the buildings may be miniature, but if you get your angles right peeps admiring subsequent holiday snaps will be none the wiser). After some animals? At ZooParc de Beauval (20 minutes) you can take your pick – this 40-hectare attraction has more than 35,000 of the things. Also recommended is the Grand Aquarium de Touraine (35 minutes), the highlight of which is a spine-chilling 15-metre shark tunnel.
