Local attractions

Active families will be happy to hear that Gadawi Park Adventure has high-ropes courses and zipwires for all levels of bravery. Close by is the Parc du Lac des Bretonnières, with a skatepark, waterside walking trails and fishing spots around the shoreline. At the local stables (all five minutes’ drive), you can take riding lessons or head off on a trek through the countryside. You can’t possibly leave Camping la Mignardière without visiting at least one of the famed châteaux strewn around the Loire Valley. Contenders include the medieval/Renaissance elegance and formal gardens at Villandry (20 minutes), the hilltop fortress of Chinon or the exquisite Chenonceau spanning the River Cher. For city wanderings, start in Tours (20 minutes) with a visit to the cathedral, botanic gardens and fine-arts museum, or poke around for gourmet foodie pickings in the covered markets. A little further along the Loire are the medieval centres of Amboise (40 minutes) and Blois (55 minutes, with more châteaux) and Saumur (50 minutes), home of dressage performances at the Cadre Noir de Saumur and pretty of wine bars serving sparkling local wines.
