  • Friendly rural glamping site five minutes' drive from Talensac
  • Less than half an hour's drive from Rennes and Brocéliande Forest
  • Swimming pool, barbecue area, hammocks and farm animals to meet
What’s the plan for your holiday? Forest hikes or a bit of town time? Or perhaps a mix of both? If you fancy a bit of variety for your Brittany break, Jardin de la Moinerie is in a particularly handy spot. This two-hectare site five minutes’ drive from Talensac is halfway between the city of Rennes and the Brocéliande Forest, a place of myths and legends as well as lovely walks. Owners Martine and Louis were keen to make this a convivial and characterful place to stay – and a quick look at the unusual accommodation options tells you they’ve certainly achieved that. The various glamping units are scattered around choice spots within the rural site, with plenty of space, privacy and views out over the surrounding meadows. Whichever one of these comfy and well-equipped units you pick, you won’t have far to get to the communal facilities: a covered outdoor pool, barbecue area and hammock area are all on hand, and the owners hope they’ll all contribute to a good bit of friendly chat between guests (as will the antics of the farm’s animals too, no doubt). As you may well expect from such a rural setting, there are plenty of places to get out for a walk or a bike ride nearby, along with other outdoor options including horse riding and a tree-climbing park. Looking a little further afield, you can get to Rennes in under half an hour or set off for a day at the coast, about an hour’s drive away.

Local attractions

Fill your days with countryside views, either by setting out to walk straight from the site or seeking out nearby hiking trails. The Brocéliande Forest (25 minutes’ drive) is a must-visit both for its walking trails and its legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table (and you can hire a storytelling guide to merge the two if you like). Take your walking boots also to the birdwatching reserve around Careil Lake (15 minutes) and the canyon-like La Chambre Au Loup (20 minutes). There’s a great mountain bike trail from Trémelin (20 minutes) to Iffendic, or you can stay put there at its lake for watersports and a treetop adventure trail. It’s worth making the effort to go to Rennes (25 minutes) as well though – as cities go, this is a particularly pretty one, with half-timbered houses, the grand parliament building and the lovely open space of the Parc du Thabor.
