- Small family-run Finistère site in the Armorica Regional Natural Park
- A 10-minute drive to the Valley of Saints; Huelgoat Forest 20 minutes
- Green setting an hour’s drive away from Roscoff's ferry port
Get yourself along to this gorgeous green setting in the Armorica Regional Natural Park pronto. Swallows Rest is the sort of place where guests can unwind in peaceful natural surroundings at whatever pace they please. It’s a small and family-run site where lots of love and care have gone into making a welcoming atmosphere and putting together thoughtful facilities, including showers and toilets.
You may very well need a good rinse in those showers after finishing a long walk in the Huelgoat Forest, 20 minutes’ drive away. These woods, known locally for their long list of legends, are full of stunning mossy boulders. There are plenty of other walking paths that can be tracked down from here, too, as the Armorica Regional Natural Park stretches for miles and miles – all the way over to the Atlantic Ocean, in fact.
If you fancy adding a few historic sites to your plans, head to the Valley of Saints, a 10-minute drive away from the site. The valley is decorated with giant granite statues of Breton saints who came to visit the slopes from as far away as Ireland, Wales and England.
Thankfully, nowadays, a journey to this area doesn't require quite as many challenges as those faced by the old saints. Getting to Swallows Rest from the British Isles is easy enough; ferries from Plymouth and Cork arrive at the ferry port in Roscoff, an hour’s drive away.

Local attractions
If you’re already done and dusted visiting the Valley of Saints (10 minutes' drive) and the Huelgoat Forest (20 minutes), your next stop could be Carhaix-Plouguer. Perhaps its most notable attraction is Karaez Adrénaline - Parc de Loisirs & Aventure (20 minutes), an adventure park in the Hyères Valley with 11 tree climbing courses, a zipwire and a huge maze.
Visiting Morlaix (half an hour) is another good idea to keep in your back pocket. In the foothills of the Monts d’Arrée mountains, this is a hugely scenic place: it has a huge, dramatic viaduct and recognisable half-timbered overhanging houses called ‘maisons à pondalez’, which were set up in the 16th century by linen merchants.
Head in the opposite direction to reach Abbaye de Bon-Repos (45 minutes). Set on the banks of the river Blavet and surrounded by the forest, this former 12th-century Cistercian abbey was remodelled in the 18th century. Nowadays it’s open to members of the public who want to see the old buildings, and it also runs modern art exhibitions.
