Fishing in Finistère? How also about a stay among seven hectares of space in spectacular Breton countryside, four kilometres from the coast, on a friendly park that's a tiptop spot for family hols? Oui? Settle down for a Brittany break at Camping Le Domaine de Mesqueau, a big, handsome and family-friendly park on the shore of a fishing lake near the pretty commune of Plougasnou. Roscoff and Morlaix are both under 15 kilometres from Plougasnou, but you might want to laze around on site for a few days first after you arrive, among the plentiful facilities to keep you and the kids amused. Most of the leisurely options centre around the reception building, the main hub of the site and where you can come and sample a homemade casserole (or take one away), have a drink on the terrace, lie lazily with a book, or have a go at a board game. Several other options are around, including a covered pool available from April to September and heated to 25ºC for dips in all weather; a kids' club and a wide range of activities in high season (mid-July until the end of August); a multisports court for football and basketball; tennis courts and ping pong, and a playground with swings and slides. Bike rental is also available on site, free wifi is available close to reception, and there's also a grocery shop with local produce as well as fresh bread and pastries each morning.

Local attractions

Camping Le Domaine de Mesqueau's Finistère locale is a nifty setting for Brittany-based family holidays, as beaches, water attractions, nature walks, family shows and regular entertainment to suit all ages are all within easy reach. Local town Plougasnou is about 13 kilometres from Morlaix on Brittany's northern coast, a good day trip option to see its many grand houses lining both sides of its port, the big nineteenth century viaduct in its town centre, and its medieval houses and half-timbered buildings. The lantern house of Maison de la Duchesse Anne is open to visitors and is well worth a look. For heady hikes, cross the Monts d’Arrée, the craggy hills rising up from central Finistère which are older than the Alps. The highest is Roc'h Ruz at 385 metres; if this just isn't enough to tire out your legs, the nearby and very slightly shorter Montagne St-Michel at 380 metres is a bit of a must for its smashing views from its chapel. From here, walking and riding trails cut across the landscape for further explores by foot or hoof. The Monts d’Arrée lie along the Armorica Regional Natural Park, a place with days' worth more activities and sights, from the seabirds flocking around its three islands to the legendary marshy hollow of Elez Yeun.
