  • Peaceful family campsite edging the River Seille in the Saône-et-Loire
  • Tournus 10 minutes’ drive, and Château de Cormatin half an hour
  • Swimming pool, pétanque court and boat hire; bar and restaurant
In search of some Burgundian R&R with the kids? Check out the relaxed credentials of tree-shaded Camping Les Bords de Seille, sitting on the banks of the River Seille and 10 minutes’ walk from the lively village of Cuisery in the Saône-et-Loire. Planted with lots of greenery and flower beds, and surrounded by birdlife, this compact site certainly packs in a lot of family-centric amenities: Mona the goose, hens and ducks to befriend; a playground for the toddlers; a small swimming pool for cooling dips; a pétanque court for games with new-found camping pals; and pedal or electric boats to hire for cruising up and down the river. With all this going on, you may not have time left for any cooking at the shared barbecue area. Luckily, you can call in at laid-back La Guinguette bar/restaurant (closed all day Tuesday and Wednesday evening) for tempting regional dishes made from locally sourced produce. There’s also a special treat for the kids at the weekly Crêpe Party (Wednesday afternoon).

Local attractions

Known as the ‘book village’ of the Saône-et-Loire, Cuisery (10 minutes’ walk) is the place to browse second-hand booksellers and rummage through the open-air book market on the first Sunday of every month. Among the antiquarian bookshops, you can graze on goodies from upmarket delis and see Burgundian wildlife exhibits at the Centre Eden. If you’re more gourmet than book aficionado, visit medieval Tournus (10 minutes) sitting on the side of the River Saône, to admire its Romanesque-era abbey and church. Culture attended to, repair to one of the town’s award-winning restaurants for a leisurely lunch or supper accompanied by a decent glass of Burgundy wine. There’s more Romanesque majesty to be seen at hilltop Brancion Castle (25 minutes), topping a sleepy rural village – or fast-forward in time to the 17th century with a tour of the formal gardens, box-hedge maze and gilt-encrusted apartments at stately Château de Cormatin (half an hour).

Kiroule power optional grass campsite

Liked: Schattiger Stellplatz

From the manager: Bonjour, Thank you for your feedback. We have chemical toilets in the parking lot near the campsite. Perhaps you haven't found them? The campsite reception is happy to answer any questions :) Have a nice day Alexandra

Kiroule power optional grass campsite

Liked: We had a stayover on our way to south France. The owners were kind enough to accomodate us last minute. Nice grassy patch, good privacy from other pitches and clean toilets/showers.
