General

  • Coastal resort with direct access to the beach and watersports
  • Regional Natural Park of Cotentin and Bessin less than an hour's drive
  • Indoor and outdoor pools, hot tub, bar, snack bar and bouncy castle

Grand? Large? Very big indeed? These can all describe your lengthy to-do list with a stay at Camping Le Grand Large right on a river among the Saint Omer marshlands: boating and waterside walks are available right from the grounds, and its Pas-de-Calais setting is nicely nifty for days out and about around France's north coast, beaches and the UNESCO-listed marshlands.

Manche seaside and family holidays are properly sorted here, a coastal resort on the Cotentin Peninsula with direct access to Normandy sands and watersports. Watersports, sailing and fishing are all nearby; a surf school is close to the site, and you'll be able to easily access activities like hiking, cycling, mountain biking, golf and horse riding in these coastal surroundings.

For food – always an essential element of a French holiday – several farmers' markets are nearby and fishing villages famed for their seafood hauls are a short drive away.

Le Grand Large is on the west coast of Cotentin with direct access to Sciotot beach, four kilometres from the nearest village of Les Pieux. It has indoor and outdoor pools, a hot tub, games room, a TV room, pétanque courts and a play area with a trampoline and a bouncy castle.

Small eats and tasty cocktails are covered at the bar and snack bar; pick up any essentials you need as well as fresh local produce and bread at the site shop.

Among the amenities are accessible washrooms with toilets and hot showers, a washing-up area and a launderette with washing machines and tumble dryers. Internet access is also available to guests.

Friendly clean quiet site rural site with direct beach access. I have a pitch a few yards from the beach and go to sleep listening to the sound of the seat. 2 restaurants within walking distance via road or beach. Local shops, market and 3 supermarkets within a short drive at Les Pieux. Beautiful dog friendly beach. Swimming pools indoor and out. Play area for children. Lovely walks some entertainment. Good friendly English speaking staff. People return year after year. Lovely sunsets. Water and sand sports. Kite flying.

    Disliked:

Cafe on site only serves chips sausage beef burgers. Shop has a few items milk bread butter tins etc. Suggestion local food orders for fruit veg meat fish etc

Clean facilities, clean pool and good access to beach. Felt safe and contained. Fantastic views on the beach.

    Disliked:

The fact the bouncy castle and trampoline are locked up at 7.30 at night. The children are on holiday i dont see the need for it to be this early each evening. No entertainment at all! Quite isolated with nothing in the surrounding areas for around 25km. The "well stocked shop" contains less things than one kitchen cupboard at home. The "chip shop" means the snack bar sells fries! And the snack bar itself has about 6 items on the menu.
I would of expected much more due to the fact you are so far from civilisation.

    No phone reception at all.

Amazing location right beside sea. Daughter loved swimming pools and playground. Other campers friendly. Good for families.

    Disliked:

No fresh veg or fruit in shop and no shops for miles (or if there are then there's no info to help find them!) Pitches very close together, though divided by hedges. Air hockey table was broken and ping pong tables would be fun but there are no bats provided, only sold in the shop which I thought was a bit tight.

Local attractions

The local village of Les Pieux has a market every Friday and another is on Mondays at Bricquebec, 14 kilometres away.

Sciotot beach a kilometre or so away has two spectacular main swimming spots, both lifeguarded in July and August, and a beach stretching over two and a half kilometres. Surfing and sailing are available all year round.

Within driving distance, the historical port town of Cherbourg 27 kilometres away is worth a look for its huge Cité de la Mer (City of the Sea) tourist building, and the Liberation Museum, displaying stories of World War II from the local people.

Alongside the local villages, the regional seafood can be sampled at Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, the seaside resort famed for its oysters, 51 kilometres away, and Barfleur 56 kilometres away, where you can try piles of plump locally farmed mussels.

The Regional Natural Park of Cotentin and Bessin is 60 kilometres away; for scenic hikes, the rural village of Carentan and the beginning of the GR 223 hiking trail is within 63 kilometres.
