If you’re keen as can be for a coastal getaway in Lower Normandy, you may find you've struck gold with Camping Les Ronds Duval. Looking out over the waves towards the Channel Islands, this pretty green site is just a kilometre away from the coast and gets some seriously impressive sunsets over the sea. Once you've settled in, get straight to putting your feet up and looking out over the view, or grab your day bag for a good hike along the GR 223 coastal path, which passes directly next to the site. Camping Les Ronds Duval is also surrounded by the Dunes d'Hatainville, a protected nature reserve with sloping dunes, and it's a pretty one-kilometre walk to get to Plage d'Hatainville’s sandy shore. Both the site and the beach are dog-friendly, so this is a splendid spot for any four-pawed travellers you might be taking on holiday (just bear in mind they'll need to be on a leash on the beach). Hiking, sailing, surfing, cycling and many other watersports may well fill up your days here too, as the site is 10 minutes’ drive away from Barneville-Carteret’s beaches and watersports school. Whatever you've got planned for the day, you can get the day off to a flying start by ordering one of the site’s handy breakfast packs; they're made up of bread, butter, jam, a croissant and a hot drink. Facilities-wise, the site has toilets and showers (including an accessible toilet and shower) and a coin-operated washing machine. There’s also a washing-up area on site.

Liked: Amazing location within walking distance of HUGE beach in area of scientific interest. Clean campsite with good facilities and dog friendly. Friendly owners and fresh bread/croissants daily. We loved it.

Liked: Good location, near the beach. Host speaks good English. Price reasonable.

Disliked: Facilities could be a little better, no toilet seats, seems normal in france. Push button on shower 5secs. But clean.

Local attractions

First stop: Barneville-Carteret (10 minutes’ drive) for a round of ice creams or coffees, followed by a stroll along the six kilometres of beaches out front. Plage de la Potinière (10 minutes) has cutesy blue-and-white beach huts. Barneville-Carteret has a watersports centre running paddleboarding and other watersports for those who can’t resist getting out on the big blue. Portbail (15 minutes) also has a sailing school. If you quite like having a go at naming bird species or staying quiet in the hope of spotting a bird you’ve never seen before, the Cotentin and Bessin Marshes Regional Natural Park (from 15 minutes) is inland. For a spot of history, Windmill of the Cotentin (15 minutes), built in 1744, is open to the public. There’s also Train Touristique du Cotentin - Gare de Carteret (five minutes) nearby for rides to seaside resorts, markets and hinterland on a 1950s steam train. There are some famed tourist spots an hour or two away too, including Mont Saint-Michel (an hour and 50 minutes) and Normandy’s landing beaches (an hour and 15 minutes).

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leashes and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
