Schedule some quiet, relaxed family time when you book a stay at Fermanville’s Camping de la Plage, a chilled spot overlooking sweeping Fréval Beach on Normandy’s Cotentin Peninsula. There’s plenty on site to keep kids happy, your peace is assured as there’s no night-time entertainment, and – even better – the beach is five minutes’ stroll away, where you can stretch out on the sand, take a dip in the English Channel and introduce the kids to rock pooling.
Indeed, everything is planned for your total comfort and relaxation. Pitches are neatly divided by hedges and the whole site is prettily landscaped with greenery and flowers. Toddlers can amuse themselves safely on the playgrounds and mini-golf course, while older kids race around playing handball or football on the multi-sports field, make new pals over games of ping-pong and table football, and bounce around on the trampoline. A giant draughts game keeps all ages amused, or you could indulge in some gentle inter-generational competition on the pétanque court.
Catering is all sorted too; order breakfast at the terrace bar, where you can also keep family hunger attacks at bay with pizzas, chips and ice cream. Alternatively, gather the family together for barbecues back at your leafy pitch.

Head for the beach (five minutes’ walk) for kayaking adventures along the English Channel coastline, or head into Cotentin and Bessin Marshes Regional Natural Park (35 minutes’ drive) to paddle along peaceful, marsh-lined waterways. If you’d rather explore on foot, follow the Customs Officers’ Path (aka the GR®223, five minutes’ walk) around the rugged Cotentin Peninsula.
Acquaint yourself further with this peaceful corner of Normandy with a visit to the old-world fishing harbour at Barfleur (15 minutes’ drive) for leisurely lunches of mussels and chips. To learn more about the region’s long relationship with the sea, take a self-guided tour of the submarine, deep-sea diving bubbles and aquarium full of colourful sea life at the interactive Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg (25 minutes).
Got a day when the weather’s not playing nicely? Round up the kids and set off for the hot tubs, waterslides and lap pool at the streamlined Centre Aquatique (40 minutes).
