- Family safari tents at an Auvergne site with river beach area
- A 20-minute drive to the Loire; half an hour to Pilat Regional Park
- Heated pools, restaurant, bar and summer kids' activities
Auvergne adventures await for guests at Villatent at Camping De Vaubarlet – this friendly site five minutes’ drive from Sainte-Sigolène is in a great location for all sorts of outdoor activities including mountain biking, hiking, canoeing and horse riding.
Stay here and there’s no need to be delayed from all that by the need to put up a tent: the safari tents (sleeping up to five) are fully equipped and ready to move into. There are, however, several other things that might delay you, as this is a place that’s got plenty of leisure facilities on site.
Heated pool or fresh-water paddle? Take your pick. De Vaubarlet has an open-air pool area with swimming pool and kids’ pool, and a bar that’s handily alongside for easy access to snacks and drinks on the poolside terrace (or catching up with the latest sports on the big TV). If you prefer more natural dips, wander down to the banks of La Dunière river, which runs through the site and has a beach area for sunbathing, fishing and paddles.
Further entertainment for the children can be found at the playground and bouncy castle or with games of volleyball, football, table tennis or pétanque. In summer, Dutch-speaking activities run six days a week, including kayak trips and a weekly kids’ disco on Friday evenings.
Each tent here has its own kitchen, but if you don’t fancy cooking you can either take a table at the restaurant (for local dishes, pizzas, salads and snacks) or grab take away meals to take back to your tent.

Local attractions
You’ll want to see some local scenery, but it’s up to you how you do that – head to Gourdon (20 minutes’ drive) for canoe trips on the Loire, saddle up for horse riding at a local equestrian centre (15 minutes), or try out the rail-based riding contraptions at Vélorail Velay (25 minutes).
There are plenty of places nearby to go for a hike or bike ride, and more trails over in the Pilat Regional Park (half an hour). And if that’s not enough, perhaps head to Le Puy (45 minutes) – the cathedral here is the starting point for the St James’s Way pilgrim trail to Santiago de Compostela.
Can’t call it a holiday without a château trip or two? Make plans for outings to Château de Rochebaron (20 minutes) and Château d’Artias (40 minutes) to compare styles from across the ages. Throw more recent history into the mix at Musée d'histoire du 20e siècle - Résistance et Déportation (40 minutes).
