It's free, quick and easy!
- Waterside site with direct access to the Saint-Étienne-Cantalès lake
- Beach, fishing, floating lake pools and boat and pedalo hire
- Pools, activity space and bar
You'll want to settle down here just for the lake, the 242-hectare expanse of Lac du Barrage de Saint-Étienne-Cantalès. And the beach. And the spectacular surrounds, and possibly the fishing. But add in the heady fact that Domaine du Lac's Cantal and Saint-Gérons setting is niftily close to many purveyors of local produce – a cheesemaker is 10 minutes away and a winery within 15 – and you're smashingly set for French stays of all sorts.
And might this be the closest beach-based snack bar anywhere in the Auvergne? A stroll of 50 metres from the site will land your peckish self at a beach snack kiosk, for eats, drinks and stocking up serious supplies for lakeside picnics. The lake also has supervised swimming, fishing, a pontoon to stretch out on, and – how fab – a floating pool and paddling pool, reached via wooden floats. Windsurf boards, boats, canoes and pedalos are all available to hire.
Your lush lakeside base is on the Espinet peninsula, with direct access to the lake and surrounded by four and a half hectares of thick woodland. Another pool is on site, along with a paddling pool and other leisure picks including an activity space/games room, a play area, tennis, and unlimited wifi around the pool and bar.

Local attractions
The lake, its floating pool, its bar and its boat hire should keep you busy for quite some time when you arrive at Le Lac; once you're ready to get out around Cantal and the Auvergne areas, a tourist info area is on site to minimise any dithering about what to do.
The site is around 15 minutes' drive from the Cantal commune of Saint-Gérons, in a south-central France setting about an hour and a half from the famed rocky town of Rocamadour and France's biggest volcano the Puy Mary. Cantal mountain hiking is a popular pastime around here as the mountains make up the widest stratovolcano in Europe (Puy Mary is the biggest): make for the GR 400 hiking path or ask the Domaine du Lac team for info on nearby routes.
Around 40 minutes' drive away is the old Haute-Avergne capital of Aurillac, at the foot of the Cantal mountains. It's a lively place well worth a day trip: you could see its volcano museum, ninth-century cathedral and dozens of listed buildings – and then pick up local eats and drinks from its many specialist shops, including a good wedge of Bleu d'Auvergne cheese.
