Sandy beach

General

  • Lakeside site in the Pyrenees a 30-minute drive from Pau
  • Beach, watersports, fishing, bar and shop
  • Terrace restaurant on the lake, 15 waterslides and nautical ski lift

You don't get many sites with their own nautical ski lifts. Or their own beach. And most definitely not a full 15 waterslides... all of which await your family antics at Camping Les Okiri, a lakeside site in the Pyrenees.

You can leap into the water from way up high at Les Okiri's jumping platform, whizz down the waterslides or zip along the lake surface on waterskis... all without leaving the grounds. Or opt for swimming instead under the keen eye of the lifeguard, or perhaps you'd care to lounge on the beach while the kids paddle at the water's edge...?

Fishing, tennis, pétanque and a games room are also on site. For eats (and drinks), a terrace restaurant is by the lake; a bar and shop are nearby and a farmers' market is within a quick drive.

Les Okiri is five minutes' walk from the Pyrénées-Atlantiques commune of Baudreix, half an hour from the festivals, concerts and regular events of lively department capital Pau and 45 minutes from somewhat quieter times at Lourdes. Canoeing and kayaking are available nearby, along with climbing, golf and cycling the local Tour de France routes.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The site only allows dogs up to 25kg.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

Pitch was good and flat. Enjoyed the lake and beach. The site facilities were clean and adequate. The walks were lovely. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again if touring in that area in the future.

    Disliked:

A local shop would have been useful for small forgotten items, however there was a large inter Marche nearby for shopping.

Enjoyed our stay. The pitch was good, flat and suitable for a caravan. The facilities were clean and adequate. The location was wonderful with a lake and beach, along with stunning walks along the river.

    Disliked:

Would benefit from a little shop nearby or on site that is within walking distance for small forgotten items. However there is a large InterMarche supermarket within a short drive away and you can order bread from the reception which was good.

From the manager...

The beach was clean and the lake was good for a nice swim. There were lovely views from the beach area. The camping area was quiet and with pitches of varying size and shade. Our children really enjoyed the slides which were great for thrill seekers. Approx 30 mins to drive to Lourdes and Pau and a train station is a short drive away if needed. There is a nice riverside walk behind the site and beautiful views of the Pyrénéens in the distance.

    Disliked:

The pitchup description when we booked didn’t mention that there is a charge for using the slides - €15 each for 2 hours. Also the beach is not for the exclusive use of guests and is very busy with other tourists who pay to use it. The car park and road in and out is very busy with all these additional visitors.
The showers and toilets were handy for the camping pitches but we rarely used them as they were smelly and full of insects. Not a great deal to do in the immediate area and the town is like a ghost town.
The pitches were quite overgrown in places and needed some TLC.

    Nothing disappointing experience

    Disliked:

Unfortunately when we arrived everything at the site was closed. Restaurant beach etc. As we were out of season I read the description closely as I didn’t want my family to be disappointed. No mention about when the facilities are open.

My partner was very upset with the state of the men’s toilets. Just not cleaned very well. The ladies toilets were just about OK but I was the only one using them.

From the manager...

Hello !

We're sorry that you didn't like you're stay in our campsite but the information about the opening of about everything is written at the entrance of the camping, and on our web site. In low season, our restaurant is open from monday to sunday from 12:00 pm to 14:30 pm and on friday and saturday night. And the beach only open on wensday, saturday and sunday. So because you were only here for a short time you couldn't enjoy all the facilities we provide.
About the toilets, you arrived at almost night, because we had other families on the campsite, those toilets was used so we can't clean them each time.
But we do clean them every morning.
So if you had seen the sign or even ask us about all this we could have help you better understand and enjoy you're stay.

kings regards.

Local attractions

Pyrénées-Atlantiques capital Pau is packed with events and attractions all year long, including food and culture festivals in all seasons, plenty of museums, galleries and shops, and facilities for activities from parkour to parachuting. If you can't be faffed driving/parking there, it's about 35 minutes to Pau by bus, from the stop outside the Baudreix lycée.

Take time too just to stroll around the city: Pau's panorama of the Pyrenees and the hillsides of Jurançon from the fab Boulevard des Pyrénées has been hailed as 'the world's most beautiful view of the earth' (as Naples was hailed as the most beautiful of the sea).

Start off at the Château de Pau at one end of the 1.8-kilometre boulevard and wander to Parc Beaumont for the most famed Pau views, of the Gave de Pau river in town and the peaks of the Pyrenees to the south. Then zip back for the National Museum in Pau's Château de Pau, the most visited heritage site in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

More Pyrenees highlights are at the famed Pic du Jer, 50 minutes away above Lourdes: take the funicular railway on its sloping route up for 950 metres, then hike one of the paths to the summit.
