It's free, quick and easy!
- Small, spacious glamping site with fully-equipped safari tents
- Half an hour from Bergerac and within cycling distance of wineries
- Excellent dinners and breakfasts, plus organic fruit and veg to pick
Simply Canvas… with added breakfast, swimming pool and organic veggies. This small Aquitaine site is five minutes’ drive from Saint-Jean-de-Duras, in an area sometimes referred to as the Tuscany of France (think sunflowers, hills, little villages, plus of course plenty of fine food and wine sloshing around).
Glamping guests will have heaps of space to play with here – the estate stretches to 12 acres, with an acre of that given over to just a handful of safari tents. Each one is kitted out with comfy beds, electrical connection and space to chill out on the deck while admiring the gorgeous rural views. You’ll also have your own private bathroom (no queues here…) and access to a communal kitchen with fridge, washing machine and all sorts of other handy bits and bobs.
Love your food? (Who doesn’t?) You’ll be among like-minded folk here. Your hosts have cultivated an orchard, sizeable veg gardens and a little clutch of farm animals, all of which contribute to the tasty breakfasts (included in the price) and sociable dinners served up. If you fancy trying your hand at a bit of cookery yourself you’re welcome to pluck fresh bits from the gardens to work with; best leave the animal husbandry to the pros, however – although they don’t mind a hand to feed the flocks from time to time...
Working up an appetite for such feasts is a cinch – walks and bike rides leave from just outside the site, leading to local villages and wineries, and there’s an open-air pool to plunge into upon return.

Local attractions
Once you’ve scuttled around the local villages, head off to some of the larger ones for more shops, markets and restaurants: Eymet, Miramont-de-Guyenne, Duras and Sainte-Foy-la-Grande are all within a 20-minute drive and all good sources of tasty treats.
If it’s wine that brings you to this area, it’s a fine idea to bring bikes along to pedal your way between the wineries – there are several within a half-hour cycle. Other top destinations for vino fans include Bergerac (half an hour’s drive), Saint-Émilion (50 minutes) and the famed cellars of Bordeaux (an hour and a half).
For a break from all the eats and drinks (advisable once in a while), it’ll take you 20 minutes or so to drive to the banks of the Dordogne for canoe trips or wild swims, or half an hour to get to the owners’ fave lake beach for sunbathing, swims and screaming down the waterslide. For a day out dappled with culture and history, shoot off to Château de Bridoire (25 minutes) to wander round the elegant mansion before getting stuck in to its collection of medieval games.
