Plentiful are the reasons as to why the Dordogne’s Camping Le Pontis is such a highly sought after place for happy holidaymakers. Its Périgord Vert setting, for starters, and the lushness of its famously emerald forests, meadows and hills. Then, it would seem, the free pool and whirlpool next door, the entertainment and the summer entertainment and events both on site and off, like the fab farmers’ market mere metres away.
On the outskirts of the village of Verteillac and between the communes of Angoulème and Périgueux, Camping Le Pontis is in a most nifty setting for getting around the top Dordogne highlights and taking on the Dordogne department’s outdoorsy and sightseeing options: for example, several signposted walks run past the site, and you’re half an hour’s drive from Brantôme – aka the ‘Venice of Périgord’ – for boat trips down the Dronne and past its famed riverside abbey. In July and August too there’s a much-loved farmers’ market in the local village with live music and a friendly local vibe.
The site team and atmos here are hailed as being super friendly, with weekly theme nights organised during peak season, as well as a seasonal bread and pastry service and summer snack bar with takeaway to keep guests amply entertained and sustained.
Guests can use the seasonal public heated pool and whirlpool next door each afternoon to cool off in should that be required, and there’s a gym there too should staying sleek be your bent while on hols.

Local attractions
This spot is a splendid one for wanderlusters, for running right near the site are several scenic and signposted walking trails, making it properly easy to get out and about to explore the history and nature of the area on foot.
During peak season too a fab farmers’ market visits the local village of Verteillac, providing site guests with a smashingly handy opportunity to pick up tasty regional tidbits for barbecues back at base.
For horsey sorts there’s the stables and riding centre over in Bourg des Maisons around 10 minutes’ drive from base, and plenty of fishing and hunting options are around the locale – the site team are knowledgable and will be able to hook you up with the local nous. Canoeing and kayaking are available in Ribérac (15 minutes' drive), and climbing in Paussac-et-Saint-Vivien (20 minutes).
