  • On the banks of the Dordogne two kilometres from medieval Cadouin
  • Direct access to a riverside beach
  • Pool surrounded by spacious deck area with sun loungers
If you're a holiday bragging sort (and of course you are; that's why the likes of Facebook are so ubiquitous), you'll like the boasting opps available with a stay at Camping Le Pont de Vicq, near the commune of Le Buisson-de-Cadouin in the Dordogne. Pourquoi? Because you'll be able to airily answer enquiries regarding what you did on your holidays with a breezy 'Oh, just pitched up by the banks of the Dordogne' (and be sure to add a nonchalant 'Doncha know?' for good measure). These are riverside pitches, right on the left bank of the river and with access to a river beach for sunbathing and dipping: be sure to get the direct beach access into your holiday gloat too… Other envy can be induced by the fact that the kids can be kept nicely busy on a stay here, whether they're splashing about in the river (that's the Dordogne), wheeling around the playground, bouncing to and fro on the trampoline or making new pals at the kids' club in high season. The site also has a big pool and a paddling pool, both surrounded by a spacious deck area set up with sun loungers; a snack bar for drinks and light bites, and a shop stocked with local products, bread and other essentials. Amenities (because even boastful hols must involve practicalities) include a laundry room with washing machines, a washing-up area, and three toilet blocks with free hot showers, spacious toilet cubicles and disabled facilities.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked The pitch by the river was very spacious with fabulous view and easy access to the river… wonderful . Nice bar, friendly reception - a pool but it wasn’t open yet . Canoeing available and river lovely for swimming

Disliked The site is a bit dated but ok for us. Although dogs supposed to be on leads there was dog mess all around the boules courts and outside cafe tables…

Beautiful location next to the river. Little snack bar on site. Hot…

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Location, Location, Location

Disliked A large group of caravans parked in a circle at the far end of the site with loads of men and women standing around had three small dogs off lead who were trying to bite my large German Shepherd, I had to hold my dog to stop her defending herself as I think if she had of got hold of one of those small dogs she could have done damage and I feel the whole situation would have escalated for myself and my wife

Local attractions

As you'll loftily inform everyone in the office/on your Facebook page, the Dordogne is filled with highly impressive attractions one could mosey around for several months. You could make for the Maxange caves five minutes' drive away, the lush landscapes of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park an hour or so north… and of course the Dordogne river, and have you showed everyone your snaps of your riverside stay? The area's also exceedingly popular for outdoorsy and nature-based activities, from canoeing and kayaking down the Dordogne and Vezère rivers to horse riding at La Jumenterie and golfing at Château des Vigiers, 50 minutes and an hour away. Another famed destination in the Dordogne is the small medieval village of Cadouin a mere two kilometres from the site, with its 12th-century abbey where torchlight guided tours take place daily. If you're around with les enfants, the Touron animal park is a good option for a family day out.
