Périgord-bound peeps on the lookout for a handy location, cast your eyes over Camping Le Bois du Coderc.
This family-friendly site has a fab forest setting on the banks of the Isle river, so it’s a pretty peaceful place for your chill-out time. But it's hardly in the middle of nowhere – Périgueux is a 20-minute drive away, and there are even more convenient restaurants and a grocery store just a few minutes’ walk away.
It’s also within easy reach of all manner of attractions – châteaux, caves, canoe trips and culinary treats all await with a drive of 45 minutes or less. Closer to home, hire bikes on site to explore the locale, amble off on one of the suggested scenic walking trails or head down to the river for a bit of fishing or paddling.
If the littlies have excess energy to burn, they can let loose at the playground or the bouncy castle, and there are also games around for the whole family – table football, pool and table tennis as well as the obligatory pétanque area. In the warmer months there’s also the option of plunging into the pool for a swim... and if it all gets too much, quieter pursuits can be had in the common room, where there’s a TV and a collection of books and games.
In summer, it’s an all-day feast around here, starting with fresh bread deliveries in the morning, followed by snacks and meals from the restaurant (eat on the terrace or take away). Barbecues and picnic tables are also provided for the cooks among you.

Local attractions
Drive down to Périgueux, 20 minutes by car, to visit the medieval and Roman quarters and take in the various museums – art, history, archaeology and military museums among them. Also worth a trip are the châteaux of Lannemary and Caussade, both around 10 minutes away.
Ancient cave art is on display at the Rouffignac cave and the Lascaux International Centre for Cave Art, both about 45 minutes away. Other natural rock formations can be seen on canoe trips from Brantôme, half an hour away, or drifting down the Dordogne from Bergerac, an hour away.
Make some time to potter around the vineyards and wine cellars down here too.
