It's free, quick and easy!
- Quiet family-friendly site five minutes' drive from Loděnice
- Half an hour's drive from the centre of Prague
- Outdoor pool, summer buffet and bar, plus sports kit to hire
Who’s to say what your future self might want to do while you’re on hols? You might be in a city-wandering mood and ready for a day of pootling around in Prague. But equally you might be more minded to spend a bit of time chilling out in the Czech countryside. Tricky one…
A cunning answer comes in the form of Caravan Camp Valek, a family-friendly rural site five minutes’ drive from the little town of Loděnice and 10 from the bigger one of Beroun. This handy location 25 kilometres from central Prague means that guests can decide on a whim whether they fancy an urban outing or would rather take a ramble around the Křivoklátsko nature reserve.
The proximity of those local towns also means it’s a cinch to stock up on supplies for your evenings on site: bag up plenty of barbecue bits, because you can hire grills and fireplaces on site to cook up alfresco eats. A shop is on site for supplementing your haul with a daily infusion of fresh bread, and in summer you can skip the cooking altogether by piling up a plate at the self-service buffet. That goes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with drinks available at the bar of an evening as well.
Cooking kit isn’t the only thing you can borrow from the folk here: they’ve also got a pile of equipment for games of badminton, pétanque, football and tennis (plus courts to stage your tournaments on). If you’re not in the mood for competition, settle in at the spacious outdoor pool instead for swims, sunbathing and swooshing down the waterslide.

Local attractions
You couldn’t possibly come here and not venture into Prague at least once… The folk on site tip the castle and the walk up Petrin Hill as their top picks, but there’s also much to be said for trips to the famed Prague Zoo, taking a boat trip on the Vltava and simply strolling around the Old Town (don’t forget to rub one of the bronze statues on Charles Bridge for a dose of good luck…).
Keep it country instead by touring the Křivoklátsko nature reserve, around 15 kilometres to the west of the site. Roam at your own pace along the forest’s hiking trails and bike paths, or set out in search of Koněprusy caves (20 minutes' drive), Karlstejn Castle (also 20 minutes) and Křivoklát Castle (35 minutes).
You can always head out for a stroll closer to home, too – site staff can point you towards riverside paths, and those that lead to the Lhotka lookout tower or the old ironworks in Chrustenice, both less than an hour’s walk away.
