  • Small Hvar site on a family olive grove with views of the Adriatic Sea
  • A 20-minute walk to Hvar town centre; 10 minutes to the beach
  • Swimming pool and bar on site, plus local meals available to order
Now here’s a great spot for an outdoor break on the island of Hvar – Kamp Kopito is less than a mile from the centre of Hvar town, so it’s close enough to be convenient but also far enough away to be nicely peaceful. This small site is set within a century-old olive grove on a family property and aims to give guests a friendly and authentic taste of island life. And a comfortable stay too of course – all the essential amenities are in place here and life centres around the open-air pool, which has a spa and sauna area, plus plenty of sun loungers for lazy days of sunbathing and swims. There’s a small bar by the pool too, and if you really want to take it easy you can order local meals (fish stews, grills, risottos and Croatian specialities like pasticada) to save you the bother of cooking or going out. Going out isn’t all that much of a hardship, however – it’s about a 20-minute walk to the centre of town for restaurants, bars and shops. Closer to home, you can walk to Pokonji dol beach in about 10 minutes, or ask the team on site to help you organise boat trips, speed boat rentals or other excursions.

Local attractions

As well as the beach close to the site, there are lots more beaches around this lovely island – some of the top spots are the secluded Malo Zaraće and the pine-tree-backed Dubovica (both 10 minutes’ drive). Inland walks are rewarding too – perhaps up to Napoleon Fortress (half an hour’s walk to the trailhead) or around the Hvar Lavender Fields (15 minutes’ drive). A wander around Hvar town is another nice way to spend some time – and there are other towns nearby that lend themselves to a stroll as well, including the pretty streets of Stari Grad (20 minutes) and the town sometimes known as the ‘Little Venice’ of Hvar, Vrboska (25 minutes). Although there’s plenty to see and do on Hvar, it’s also worth making time to get out on a boat trip to the Pakleni islands – you can take an organised tour (often including the Blue Cave as well) or hire a boat in town and navigate yourselves there, perhaps stopping off for a bit of snorkelling on the way.
