  • Small, quiet eco-friendly site close to the Bulgaria/Greece border
  • In an area of several wineries; Sandanski spa town 25 mins' drive
  • Indoor and outdoor kitchens, plus firepit/barbecue and hammocks
What a fabulous spot this is for travellers with varied interests – Kamping Kromidovo is in the Petrich area of south-west Bulgaria but it’s also close to the borders with Greece and North Macedonia for those planning to dip into several countries on their holiday. Even if you’re planning to stick firmly to the Bulgarian side of the border you should find plenty of ways to fill your days – this area is well known for its wineries, and it’s got lots of walks and cycle routes to follow too. A monastery, a spa town and a car museum are among the other potential visits nearby; if you’re a little baffled by how to go about seeing it all, have a chat with the folk on site, who are able to organise tours, wine tastings and taxi services for guests. A relaxed rural site this may be, but it’s also one that’s easily accessible, being just a couple of kilometres away from the E79 main road. Once on site, you’ll be settling into spacious and informal pitches with electric hookups and access to a good cluster of amenities including recycling facilities, an outdoor shower and bathrooms with modern showers and a washing machine. A chemical disposal point is also available, but as this is an eco-friendly site please note it accepts green chemicals only. Another eco-friendly aspect is the presence of fresh organic veg, herbs and fruits – some of which are on sale for guests. Turning them into meals should be easy enough, as the site has a well-equipped communal kitchen, an outdoor summer kitchen and a firepit/barbecue for guests to use. Something to wash it all down? Homemade beer and wine are available to sample too…

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: I was really honoured to be John’s first pitchup customer, especially as the site turned out to be one of the best I’ve ever stayed at. It was very peaceful and well maintained with a really great bathroom including strong water pressure in the shower! Every morning I was invited on a dog walk with some of the other guests and I also got to sample John’s homemade wine. There’s a real friendly feel about the place and he was a font of helpful knowledge about the country. In addition, the site is a short walk from a local winery where you can do tastings.

Local attractions

If you’ve got a taste for wine, you’ve come to the right area – there are lots of vineyards and wineries to visit around here, with the closest (Orbelus Winery) only 10 minutes’ walk away and others such as Villa Melnik within a short bike ride/drive. Ask on site about guided tours if you’d like to avoid someone being designated driver for a day of tastings. Wine isn’t the only liquid attraction around here – the area is also known for its thermal waters, which you can dip your toes into at the mineral baths in Rupite (20 minutes’ drive) or the spas in Sandanski (25 minutes). For other days out, visit the Baba Vanga House Museum (20 minutes), Rozhen Monastery (half an hour) or the Zlaten Rozhen retro car museum (five minutes) – or seek out hiking trails in Pirin National Park (half an hour).
