What a little Bihać bargain – Autocamp Orljani is a peaceful park tucked away next to its sister hotel and restaurant, a five-minute drive (or 40-minute stroll) from the town centre.
Being part of a little cluster of related businesses has the bonus of allowing guests access to the hotel’s facilities (the restaurant, tennis court, volleyball court, playground and football pitch) without forking out extra euros for a hotel stay. With the coins you’ve saved through such a move, you might like to sign up for one of the rafting trips that site staff run frequently to the nearby Una river...
If you like the idea of the river rather more than the idea of rafting, the site has its own stretch of riverbank with a little beach area for sunbathing and splashing in the fresh water. Not a sun seeker? Retreat to the shade of the tree-filled park for a shaded snooze or head to the covered kitchen space to sort yourself some snacks.
When not messing about on the river, you might like to consider heading out for hikes in the Una National Park (20 minutes’ drive), seeking out local castles or just bimbling around Bihać with ice cream in hand. If you’re not constrained by such trifles as country borders, it’s also a fine idea to cross over to Croatia and the pretty Plitvice Lakes National Park (about half an hour away by car).

Local attractions
Any local explores must of course begin in Bihać – ramble along the riverbank to get there in 40 minutes or so for a wander around the Fethija Mosque, Captain’s Tower and Una-Sana Canton Historical Museum before selecting a spot (by the river, perchance?) for drinks and dinner.
Heading away from town, the other obvious outing is to Una National Park (20 minutes’ drive) to hike between stunning lakes and waterfalls, stopping by the Art Natura Eco Village to see traditional mills and a mini farm. Up for more activity? Join a rafting trip to paddle along the river – pick a placid stretch or a more bubbly bit if you’re feeling adventurous.
Take a breather from the activity for a wander around the old castle in Ostrožac (25 minutes), which is surrounded by a splendid sculpture garden. The Barać caves (50 minutes) and Plitvice Lakes National Park (half an hour) are other options for pretty scenery if you’re up for skipping over the border into Croatia.
