If you’re planning a stay that will immerse you in Belize’s fabulous natural landscapes, you’ll surely want to make sure your getaway has a minimal impact on the environment, helping to protect it for both wildlife and future visitors.
This is where a stay at Hok' Ol Kin comes in – this small family-friendly campground mixes up camping and conservation to provided a safe space for both wildlife and weary guests. Great care has been taken here to create a minimal environmental impact, with features such as compost toilets and structures built with locally sourced materials.
In keeping with the eco-friendly ethos, facilities here have been kept to just the essentials, but as well as those toilets you’ll also have access to showers, wifi and a communal fridge and freezer (electricity provided from the local grid to provide an uninterrupted supply). Barbecues and campfires are both permitted, and you can pick up supplies for both in San Ignacio (10 minutes’ drive away).
Settling down here means being able to soak up some of the peaceful atmosphere of the Belizean countryside, and also having access to all the excellent activities and tours of San Ignacio, a popular tourist hub. Waterfall walks, wildlife encounters, canoe trips, visits to ancient sites… you’ll be in prime position for all of them, and there are several tour companies in town that can help you organize your adventures.
