- Glamping on a family-friendly site five minutes' drive from Bocholt
- Surrounded by walking/bike trails of the Limburg Kempen area
- Three swimming pools, beach area, petting zoo and summer activities
All the outdoorsy life, none of the hassle of setup… it’s a good deal indeed at Vodatent at Camping Goolderheide, a Limburg glamping site five minutes’ drive (or 10 minutes’ bike ride) from the town of Bocholt.
This place is a particularly fine pick for folk travelling light, as the smart safari tents have stacks of stuff already sorted. As well as beds and furniture, they’ve also been supplied with a kitchen on wheels – roll it outside for alfresco cheffing on fine days and retreat undercover should clouds threaten (or ignore it completely and run off to the restaurant).
And it’s an even finer pick for folk who like to fill days with walks or bike rides, for it’s part of the Limburg Kempen – an area known for its network of quiet paths through forests, along riverbanks and over to the huge sand plains around Lommel. Handily, many of these paths also offer plenty of places to refuel with coffee, cakes or excellent Belgian beers.
Back at base it’s a cinch to cool off after your endeavours, as the site has not one, not even two, but a generous three swimming pools to dive into. And if that’s not quite enough, there’s also a recreation lake for more swims or sandy beach sunbathing.
More? There’s plenty more: leisure facilities on site also include a pétanque court, a multisports court, a cycle-cross track, miniature golf, a fitness trail, an assault course… plus several playgrounds, a sand pit and a petting zoo to keep the kids busy (when they’re not engrossed in the activities laid on in summer, that is).

Local attractions
The nature walks and bike rides are indeed fab around this area – pedalling off from the site is a good option, but it’s also worth making the effort at least once to get over to the fab desert/lake/forest landscapes of the Sahara Lommel nature reserve (half an hour’s drive).
Want to expand on that activity list? Don skis whatever the weather at the Snow Valley indoor ski centre (15 minutes’ drive), get a bit of speed on at Racelandkart go-kart track (15 minutes) or slow the pace with a trip to the Zilvermeer lake (35 minutes) for fishing, pedaloes, lake swims and scuba trips to view the underwater statues.
For art on dry land, head to Klankenbos (20 minutes), an outdoor sculpture park with all sorts of interactive sound installations. Alternatively, learn all about the art of brewing at Bocholt Brewery Museum – Europe’s biggest brewery museum is five minutes’ drive away (or 45 minutes on foot if you’re intending to settle in for samples after your tour).
