- A 20-minute drive from Bielaviežskaja Pušča National Park

Pitching up in eastern Poland and thinking of making a break over the border to Belarus? Do it – and stay at Belovezhskaya Gostevaya, a site about a 20-minute drive from Bielaviežskaja Pušča National Park. It’s also a 10-minute walk to the traditional village of Navickavičy and right by a lake where guests can fish, with an old mill dating back to 1898 behind its gates.
This site in the Kamenetz district has lots to love alongside its location, from a common area with a fireplace for curling up next to in cooler months, to a Russian sauna for sweating it out whatever the season. You can also order home-style Belarusian cooking for a taste of the local culture... or just get some of your own grub on the go using the barbecues.
Brought the small fry with you? Send them off to the playground or cart them into the countryside to help you forage mushrooms and berries for dins. You could also rest by the water’s edge, head indoors and catch some TV on the satellite telly, or ask the staff about the tours available – horse riding, foodie trips and shopping excursions can be signed up for now and again.
If you’re intent on touring DIY style, head over to Kamyanyets 10 minutes’ drive away to see the historical tower, then go north towards the UNESCO-registered Bielaviežskaja Pušča National Park to hike the last place in Europe where wild bison bumble about. Those with eagle eyes might also be in with a chance of spotting buffalo, wild hog and Eurasian elk...
Contemplating which other sights to veer towards on the journey back over to Poland? The site is about an hour’s drive from the middle of Białowieża Forest, the oldest and biggest woodland on the continent.

Local attractions
Those curious about Belorussian’s history can make their way to Brest, a city about a 45-minute drive south of the park, to check out the 19th-century Brest Hero Fortress celebrating Soviet resistance during the Second World War. They can also swing by the Kholmsk Gate – still covered in bullet holes – and try to fit all of the massive Thirst Monument into one camera snapshot.
Visitors can also make tracks towards the open-air Railway Museum with its historic locomotives and see what a Slavic village looked like in the 13th century at the Berestye Archaeological Museum.
Done with the cultural bits? Parks aplenty are mixed in between the Communist and Central European-style buildings in this city for picnicking and people watching alike.
