  • Family-friendly site with easy access to Newgale Beach, Pembrokeshire
  • Haverfordwest 15 minutes’ drive; Tenby 50 minutes
  • On the Pembrokeshire Coast Path; bistro on site
If you would like your Welsh holiday to be punctuated by spectacular sunsets over the sea, now might be the time to book a spot at Newgale Campsite. This family-run (and family-friendly) spot benefits from a privileged location on the western coast of Pembrokeshire. How do you fancy the idea of getting up in the morning, crossing the road, scrambling across a low bank of shingle and being faced by the spectacle of St Brides Bay? It shouldn’t take any more than… oh, about one minute on foot to reach Newgale Beach. The time you save by staying so close to the sea can be invested in your favourite water-based activities, whether wild swimming, surfing or canoeing. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path passes just by the site; follow it north to reach Porth Mynawyd (a one-hour walk), a remote tidal beach in a deep cove with shallow waters and rockpools, or south to Nolton Haven Beach (55 minutes’ walk). This is a popular spot for surfing, so you might want to drive, instead, and bring your board (it takes about 10 minutes by car). National Trust - Southwood Estate (five minutes’ drive) is a top place for spotting the local wildlife, from grazing ponies to nesting birds. Amenities on site include a toilet/shower block with facilities for disabled guests, a launderette and a communal freezer. On weekends in June and the school summer holidays, a catering van serves woodfired pizzas. There's also a bistro on the north side of the site called The Landsker Line Bistro Bar, open on Monday to Thursday evenings and from noon to 10pm on weekends and bank holidays. Get your hands on drinks like speciality Pembrokeshire-brewed lager and ale or cider and stout on draught. Occasionally, the bistro also hosts live music and other events. The nearest pub is a two-minute drive away, and there are several restaurants within a five-minute drive, plus plenty more in Haverfordwest (15 minutes).

Primitive grass campsite (no pets)

Liked: Friendly staff. Clean toilets and showers

Disliked: Ground not good for standard tent pegs . Camp site is very chaotic with people pitching up where they want

From the manager: Hi Rachel,

Many thanks for coming to stay with us this week at Newgale Campsite. Unfortunately, the weather this week has been wet and miserable and this seems to have tainted your view of our site.
We're pleased to hear you liked our shower block facilities and appreciated our great team of staff.
I'm somewhat confused by your comment about the ground not being good for standard tent pegs. The ground is grass and with a mallet which campers pack in their standard equipment, tent pegs can easily be knocked into the ground.
The campsite is far from chaotic, we have a clear site plan on our website with 36 well laid out electric pitches. The remainder of the site is open field, either pet or no pets. This allows campers to choose their own spot according to their preferences. Our campers love this about Newgale Campsite, campers are asked to park a safe distance from each other in accordance with fire regulations and privacy.
Our team work incredibly hard and to date this year we have received very high scores on our reviews so it is disappointing that you have marked us down. You marked us down for accommodation and yet you brought your own, you also marked us down on WIFI which is a free service to campers.

Next time you have issues with a campsite it would be fairer to discuss these with the owner face to face rather than drag down their hard fought for review scores.

Kind regards,

Clare Harris, Owner, Newgale Campsite.

Powered grass campsite (medium)

Liked: Big field even though it was busy still had enough room, staff friendly and toilet block tidy.

Disliked: Had to pay for showers was only 20p for 2min accepted 20p or pound coins which wasn't bad but a shock

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hello!

We are glad you enjoyed your stay and we understand it can be a shock about the showers as not a lot of campsites do this. The main benefit of this is to stop queues for showers during busy periods.

We hope to see you back again soon!

Thanks and all the best,

Team Newgale

Powered grass campsite (medium)

Liked: The site was lovely clean, very friendly staff and the shower block modern and spotlessly clean.
Great location right next to the beach, even the mini pub did a great pint of ale.
Lovely cafe up the road that does great food at a reasonable price.
There was also a fish and chip van on site that operated on Friday night great fish and chip great value for money.
You could hire a fireplace for £5 a night and buy the wood there too.

Disliked: My only criticism was no shop close by for emergency supplies.
I.e bread, milk , some tinned items, biscuits.etc
They did do crisps, chocolate, canned drinks and water

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Irene,

Thank you for the kind words, they are much appreciated by our team!

We do sell milk in reception but for anything else its best to come prepared :)

The Landsker Bar is our most recent addition to the campsite and will soon be doing take away food and coffees too.

Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you again in the future!

All the best,

Local attractions

The smallest city in the UK, St Davids (15 minutes’ drive) has a cathedral that holds a shrine to St David, which was an important pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. Just across the River Alun are the imposing ruins of Llys yr Esgob, Tyddewi / St Davids Bishop’s Palace. Roller coasters, water rides and family attractions await at Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour), which also has a soft-play area and indoor games. If the kids (or you…) are more into animals, book a relaxed trek at Pembrokeshire Llama Sanctuary (45 minutes). Do you like sunrises as much as sunsets? Then get up early and head to Tenby (50 minutes), which has two east-facing sandy beaches on Bae Caerfyrddin. From Tenby it’s also possible to catch a boat to Caldey Island, where you might buy chocolate or perfume made by the resident monks.
