  • Family-friendly site with easy access to Newgale Beach, Pembrokeshire
  • Haverfordwest 15 minutes’ drive; Tenby 50 minutes
  • On the Pembrokeshire Coast Path; bistro-bar on site
If you would like your Welsh holiday to be punctuated by spectacular sunsets over the sea, now might be the time to book a spot at Newgale Campsite. This family-run (and family-friendly) spot benefits from a privileged location on the western coast of Pembrokeshire. How do you fancy the idea of getting up in the morning, crossing the road, scrambling across a low bank of shingle and being faced by the spectacle of St Brides Bay? It shouldn’t take any more than… oh, about one minute on foot to reach Newgale Beach. The time you save by staying so close to the sea can be invested in your favourite water-based activities, whether wild swimming, surfing or canoeing. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path passes just by the site; follow it north to reach Porth Mynawyd (a one-hour walk), a remote tidal beach in a deep cove with shallow waters and rockpools, or south to Nolton Haven Beach (55 minutes’ walk). This is a popular spot for surfing, so you might want to drive instead and bring your board (it takes about 10 minutes by car). National Trust - Southwood Estate (five minutes’ drive) is a top place for spotting the local wildlife, from grazing ponies to nesting birds. The nearest pub is right on site: the bistro-bar, named The Landsker Line, dishes out local Pembrokeshire ales, soft drinks and coffee, as well as food like pasties, sausage rolls, loaded fries and ice cream. It's a splendid place to refuel and unwind, especially since it has sports TVs and live music from artists throughout the season. Amenities on site include a toilet/shower block with facilities for disabled guests, a launderette and a communal freezer. On weekends in June and the school summer holidays, a catering van serves woodfired pizzas. There are also several restaurants within a five-minute drive of the site, plus plenty more in Haverfordwest (15 minutes).

Great campsite, steps from a beautiful beach! Staff are friendly & helpful. Clean facilities, pizza van & pub on-site. Some find it crowded/noisy & showers/pizzas pricey. Good vibe, close to the sea.

Primitive grass campsite (no pets)

Liked Very nice and open camp ground. There was a mix of different people there so it felt friendly. The guy on reception was really helpful, showed us to our pitch, told us about the cafe/bar and the singer on that weekend. We were happy that there were showers there that you could pay to use. Make sure you take 1 pound coins or 20ps. If not you can purchase a token for the showers at the reception, but make sure to take change (£1) for the phone charger station that is in the washing up area. We used it but it didn't work on my phone (samsung) and my partner has an iPhone and it didn't charge it very much in the hour, however it could have been our phones so dont knock it untill you've tried it🤣. There are buses that run past the campsite however we didn't use the buses but there are bus routes. There is also a pizza van on site!

Disliked There isnt anything that we didn't like about the campsite, the only thing I think would have made it even better would be if they sold camping items at reception, only because my partner and I are complete novicies and didn't pack the important stuff🤣

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Proximity to the beach is unrivalled! Staff were so unbelievably kind and caring. Nothing was too much trouble. Visited in the summer holidays so pretty busy and slightly chaotic, kind of a pitch up where there’s a space vibe but nice family feel to it and clean facilities. Gorgeous walk you can do up the cliffs, 5.5 miles to town called Solva, can get bus straight back to campsite, highly recommend! Excellent value for money too, especially as a solo traveller.

From the manager: Hi Ali,
Thanks so much for your comments. It’s great to hear that our location, facilities, and staff made your stay enjoyable. We love seeing solo travellers and families alike make the most of the area, the Solva walk is particularly gorgeous! Your feedback really helps us keep improving the experience for everyone.

Local attractions

The smallest city in the UK, St Davids (15 minutes’ drive) has a cathedral that holds a shrine to St David, which was an important pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. Just across the River Alun are the imposing ruins of Llys yr Esgob, Tyddewi / St Davids Bishop’s Palace. Roller coasters, water rides and family attractions await at Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour), which also has a soft-play area and indoor games. If the kids (or you…) are more into animals, book a relaxed trek at Pembrokeshire Llama Sanctuary (45 minutes). Do you like sunrises as much as sunsets? Then get up early and head to Tenby (50 minutes), which has two east-facing sandy beaches on Bae Caerfyrddin. From Tenby it’s also possible to catch a boat to Caldey Island, where you might buy chocolate or perfume made by the resident monks.
