  • Modern site with Ramsey Sound views, a 10-minute drive from St Davids
  • A 10-minute walk to St Justinian’s; Whitesands Bay 10 minutes’ drive
  • Dog-friendly pitches a short walk from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
With spectacular views and access to some of Pembrokeshire’s finest countryside, Rhosson Ganol Caravan and Camping Park is in a splendid spot a 10-minute drive from the cathedral city of St Davids, on a working farm that has been home to the same family for more than 100 years. In addition to modern, clean and well-maintained facilities and hot showers, this family-orientated site has far-reaching views towards Ramsey Island and the St David’s Head peninsula. Settling in here means you’re in a prime location to explore this dramatic coastline – or alternatively just hang around on site to enjoy the serenity and the sunsets over Ramsey Sound. If you fancy abandoning the car for a day, you can take the 10-minute walk to St Justinian’s, where you can go on a guided tour of the RNLI St Davids Lifeboat Station on the cliffside. From St Justinian’s, you can also access the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, go on a fishing trip or take a boat to Ramsey Island, an RSPB Nature Reserve where you might see guillemots, choughs and Atlantic grey seals. Dogs are welcome to join you here, and at many of the local attractions – the closest dog-friendly beach is the quiet, sheltered cove of Porthselau (15 minutes’ walk). From here, at low tide, you can wade to Whitesands Bay – but be sure to check the tide times before attempting this route. Alternatively, stay dry by hailing the local bus service, which will take you right into St Davids.

Liked: Amazing views and new modern toilet and shower blocks.

Disliked: Pitches not level for campervans. Very boggy and lots of damage due to recent weather leaving deep tyre treads. Even though it had wifi, we couldn't get a signal at all our pitch. No mobile phone coverage either. Needs better wifi coverage on site to reach all pitches. Could also do with a smaller toiler and shower block by the bottom pitches to save walking so far.

Liked: The view was nice & owner nice.

Disliked: We actually couldn’t stay here due to the weather. We arrived after not being informed the pitches were too muddy to stay. Although the owner was very kind & weather is completely out of his control. Knowing all his pitches were grass pitches & in a terrible condition I think it would have been the right thing to cancel this accommodation. Instead we have paid for 3 vans to stay here & none of us were able to stay. No money back yet. The facilities were also across the road from the site.

Liked: Incredible views, shame we couldn’t stay.

Disliked: Weather wasn’t on outside unfortunately and we were unable to stay due to the rain and vans getting stuck on the boggy grass pitches. Meaning we have to find an alternative pitch at short notice. Would be great if they would invest in some gravel pitches.

Liked: We didn’t stay as field was too muddy. Camper van before us got stuck and we had 3 big vans. Owner said if we got stuck he would sort it in the morning. Fair enough but we could use the field as it was awful and the toilets were too far away.

Disliked: As above …. Muddy field ( can’t help the weather but needs better drainage or hard paths to the loo and showers Toilet block to far away

Liked: Views incredible and really friendly owner. Easy check in with your pitch noted on a board. Because it’s such a great spot you’re exposed to the elements but as long as your prepared shouldn’t be an issue.

Disliked: Unfortunately the weather meant the field was very wet and we had to be towed out as it was a mud bath however the owner couldn’t do enough to help and totally beyond their control.

Liked: View was beautiful, shower and toilet facilities were spotlessly clean and warm. The WiFi is excellent. The weather was quite bad and caused a lot of mud (but it is March!) but the owner was so wonderful and offered us a refund when we arrived due to the boggy conditions. He also then lent us an extension lead for the electric hook up so we could park half on the path and was on hand to tow a few other customers out when they were leaving. You really can’t ask for more!

Disliked: It was a little far to walk to the facilities.

Local attractions

St Davids (10 minutes’ drive) owes its status as Britain’s smallest city to its 12th-century cathedral, with its remarkable wooden nave ceiling. Take in St David’s shrine, then visit the Gothic ruins of St Davids Bishop’s Palace just across the Alun river before heading back into the city centre for a look at art galleries and a bite to eat. If you’ve come to Wales with your surfboard or paddleboard your next stop should be Whitesands Bay (10 minutes), also known as Porthmawr – it's a top destination for watersports. With its sandy crescent overlooked by rugged hills covered in wildflowers, the area also lends itself to lazy beach days or coastal walks. A trip to Dr Beynon’s Bug Farm (10 minutes) ought to make kids with a passion for creepy crawlies pretty happy. In addition to a Tropical Bug Zoo with an ant colony, there’s also a British Bug House and a Walled Garden with butterflies and bees, plus several trails through farmland where you can learn about the importance of insect pollinators.
