  • Family-friendly holiday park with well-kept lawns, shrubs and trees
  • Beaches of Saundersfoot within five minutes’ drive and Tenby in 10
  • Nightly entertainment, heated indoor pool, clubhouse and play area
Which way to the beach? Well, the short answer is both east and south, but the longer one is that there are several sandy stretches close to Sunnyvale Holiday Park, a five-minute drive from the coast around Saundersfoot and 10 minutes from the fab former fishing village of Tenby. A local bus service stops at the site’s entrance and travels to both these spots twice an hour through the summertime, but the park is no basic base where the seaside location is the only attraction. Oh no – it’s actually an activity-packed complex set in manicured gardens so attractive they’ve won numerous prizes at the local Saundersfoot in Bloom competition. Along with the well-kept lawns, colourful shrubs and mature trees, the site has an entertainment complex hosting nightly shows, a drinks patio with views of raised flowerbeds, and a heated indoor pool for family splashtime. Younger members of the clan have kids’ clubs and a play area to keep them busy too, while grownups guests will be chuffed to know mealtimes are made easier thanks to the on-site food shop and eatery. Bringing the dog along to explore the Pembrokeshire coast and countryside? Pets are welcome at the park provided they’re kept on a lead and sleep on a blanket or basket brought by you.

Local attractions

There’s so much to do near this site that it’s tricky to know where to start. But the beach is always a good place to begin, so check out the sandy stretches around Saundersfoot (five minutes’ drive) and Tenby (10 minutes) first, making sure to carve out a little time for ambling around the old streets and harbours of these fab seaside resorts too. If your offspring aren’t ones for wanders, take them to Oakwood Theme Park (15 minutes) instead, one of Wales’ main attractions for folk under the age of 15, or flock to Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo if the tiddlers you’re travelling with are under 10. Heatherton World of Activities is another hotspot for younger holidaymakers thanks to its range of pay-to-play attractions. For culture and a country walk, crack on towards Carew Castle & Tidal Mill (15 minutes) and navigate the circular route while taking in a 23-acre millpond. Caldey Island is another spot to learn about Welsh history as it has a working Cistercian monastery reachable by boat from Tenby’s harbour. Potter around the Old Priory and medieval churches here, then attend one of the short chanted services in the Abbey Church before making sure to pick up some island-made chocolate and shortbread at the village post office as a tasty souvenir.
