  • Dog-friendly pop-up site with views of valleys and Carew Castle
  • A 10-minute drive from Skrinkle Haven beach and 15 minutes from Tenby
  • Shops and stunning coastal walks a short drive
Grand views? Oh, yes. Just as the name suggests, Ridge Top Camping very much exceeds expectations in that department. The pop-up site looks out over the Carew and Sageston valleys, as well as Carew Castle & Tidal Mill, Carew Airfield, the Cleddau river and the Preseli Hills. That isn’t its only forte, however. Ridge Top Camping is fully dog-friendly, meaning that any pups can check out Pembrokeshire with you. Through the two hardstanding gates and into the large grazed field, guests will come across facilities like portable toilets. The manager, who lives on site, is available to share tourist information having been born and raised in pretty Pembrokeshire. Location-wise, Ridge Top Camping has plenty going for it too. Tenby, with its 13th-century town walls and annual IRONMAN Wales event, is just 15 minutes’ drive away. Voyage there for boat trips to Caldey Island or days by the harbour. Pembroke is 10 minutes’ drive away if you fancy things like seasonal falconry displays in an 11th century castle or shopping. If the Pembrokeshire coast is one of the big things that drew you down to these parts, you will be in a pretty good spot indeed. Skrinkle Haven Beach, a low-tide beach with tall, green cliffs on either side, is just 10 minutes’ drive away and Barafundle Bay beach (another gorgeous bathing patch) is 25 minutes’ drive away. There’s a shop within walking distance of the site in case you want to pack a picnic for the sand.

Local attractions

Where to start? With Carew Castle & Tidal Mill (five minutes’ drive), which has a motley history, bats and ghosts (if you believe in that sort of thing). It’s not the only historical site around. Saint Govan's Chapel (25 minutes), a chapel built into the side of a cliff-face along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, is an excellent sight. Further along that same stretch of coastal path, catch a few of Pembrokeshire’s stunning geological formations like the Green Bridge (25 minutes) and The Cauldron (25 minutes) – stacks, arches and such things. And where else might pull you in? Fishguard (45 minutes) has a pretty harbour with all the usual watersports and boat trips. St Davids (55 minutes) is Britain’s smallest city. St Dogmaels (an hour) in north Pembrokeshire is another worthy spot, a short walk from Poppit Sands and home to an abbey which hosts Shakespeare plays in the summer season.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Nothing.... this was supposed to be a pop up site, however when we arrived it had not 'popped up', phoned the mobile number and the guy Henry who answered claimed it was nothing to do with him and didn't know anthing about it.

Disliked: Everything. It doesn't exist. Would give no stars if possible.
