  • No-frills campsite with sea views near Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire
  • A 10-minute drive to Newgale beach, and 20 minutes to St Davids
  • Wild camping with running water; pubs and shops 20 minutes’ drive
Surfers, kiters, beach babies, rock-pooling families and their canine companions – all are welcome at Woodlane Camping, just 10 minutes’ drive from the extensive sands of Newgale Beach. This no-frills campsite is surrounded by spectacular Pembrokeshire countryside – and with glimpses of the sea from the field just to remind you how close it is. Choose your own pitch within the 14-acre hilltop field, located on a farm with a livery yard. There’s plenty of space for everyone, although some areas of the field are on a slight incline. Head for Haverfordwest (20 minutes’ drive) to pick up supplies for the barbecue (bring your own gear from home), and if you’re not going down the self-catering route, put your feet up in a waterfront café or pub with views over the Western Cleddau river. As this is wild camping, please note there is no electricity supply, but facilities on site do stretch to two toilets and running water. Firepits are allowed, as long as they're raised off the ground (no ground fires, please).

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Lovely nights stay here. Very peaceful and a lovely view of the sea in the distance. We had already paid for 2 nights and decided to book another night short notice, arriving a day earlier. Sion kindly said to pay the extra night at some point over the weekend. Unfortunately our Van had something wrong with it and we couldn’t stay for the last 2 nights as planned. After explaining to Sion that we’d be leaving earlier than expected, he very kindly said that we didn’t have to pay for the extra night. 😊 Would love to come back next summer, as it is in a great location.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Good location, isolated & private yet close to Newgale beach & local pubs Roch, Newgale & Solva although you do need to drive. Lovely circular walk through Brandy Brook footpath. Hosts were very warm, friendly & welcoming.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike if you’re up for some no frills camping. There are toilets & a cold water washing up sink. No problem for me as I don’t do the campfire cooking thing

Liked: Huge wild unmown field with lovely views- we had the whole place to ourselves for 2 nights! Two clean, flushable toilets - not portaloos! Short drive to lovely beaches. Total peace and quiet. Dog friendly and allows fires (took our own fire pit) Walking from the site.

Local attractions

With vast swathes of sand backed by a pebble bank, Newgale beach (10 minutes’ drive) is Pembrokeshire’s surfing central. Experts can grab a board and get out on the waves, and if you’re not quite an expert yet, board hire, tuition and a gear shop are all on hand at the beach. Kids can go rock-pooling at low tide, and there’s a cave to explore at the southern end of the beach. Pretty Solva (15 minutes) is another local highlight, where kids can go crabbing in the harbour and with safe swimming off the sandy beach. When you’ve had your fill of beach life, have a potter around the cute village, crammed with art galleries and souvenir shops. There’s more art to be seen at the Oriel y Parc Gallery in St Davids (20 minutes), while keen historians can explore the medieval cathedral overlooking the River Alun as well as the Gothic-era bishop’s palace, also open for alfresco theatre events in summer. As well as more than 600 miles of walking paths, kid-friendly attractions in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park include themed fun days at waterside Carew Castle (40 minutes), and the chance to experience life in prehistoric times at Castell Henllys Iron Age Village (45 minutes). They’ll probably love the fairground rides at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (40 minutes) too.
