Overlooking the sea

  • Family-run site situated on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Direct access to Porthsele beach; a mile from Whitesands
  • Farm shop, coffee hut, bar and pizzas available in high season
Fancy a stay on a family-run farm… with direct access to a beach below? Make your way to Pencarnan Farm Caravan and Camping Site, a 96-acre farm overlooking Porthsele beach on the Pembrokeshire coast. The site is on the most western tip of Pembrokeshire, with views of St Georges Channel connecting the Irish and Celtic seas. You'll be in good company with a stay here: generations of the same family have been running the site since the mid-1950s, a holiday spot for guests who return year after year – some with their kids and grandkids now in tow. This place is just the ticket for outdoor adventures too, as it's set directly above Porthsele beach (with private vehicle access so you can cart all your kit along with you). The sea and bay are safe for swimming and kayaking, and there are plenty of rockpools to explore at low tide. If you haven’t got your fill of sea breeze, surfing beach Whitesands is a one-mile walk along the coastal path or, if you’re feeling adventurous, a half-mile swim or kayak from Porthsele. Sorting supplies is easy at the farm too: in the high season, a site shop is on hand with camping and food supplies, wetsuits and logs for beach fires, and a coffee hut opens every day. A bar and pizzas are also available at peak times.

What customers say

Stunning coastal spot with beach access & amazing views. Guests loved the friendly staff, large pitches, and lively courtyard with cafe/bar/pizza. Well-kept facilities, though some noted wind, occasional shower temp issues, and pitch-to-facility distance. Great atmosphere, beauty, and amenities.

Beach Field primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The location was absolutely outstanding. It was a shame that the Pizza Hut and everything had closed for the season but it was an absolutely perfect place to stay for coastal walks and also to explore Saint Davids which is only a short cycle or walk away. Will definitely go back.

Disliked It was just a shame we didn’t see anybody who owned the place, but I can understand that they just finished a long summer season. Hence the one Star for customer service because obviously there wasn’t any.

3-amp Rhosson Field powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Amazing location, views, space and walking distance to Ty Ddewi.

Disliked Facilities were clean but just a bit dark and tired looking, possibly after a busy summer. Showers were push button & fixed to the wall which might been for water saving reasons but I find them difficult to use.

Beach Field primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful location on the cliff top. Nice loos and showers and washing up area. Very quiet when I stayed but fellow campers all very friendly. Lovely swimming beach below the cliff top and right on coastal path. Dog very happy too. Didn't see any staff but didn't matter. Reception and pizza place closed but I had my own food so wasn't planning to have pizza.

Disliked Nothing.

Carn Llidi View primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

3-amp Carn Llidi View powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked We had a fabulous time staying at Pencarnan farm. We highly recommend it. It has its own private beach and some lovely coastal walks. It’s a short drive into St.David’s and the facilities are easily accessible and clean

Disliked One negative is the on site shop was shut and some of the facilities (pizza bar) are shut which seemed a shame as the weather was good. Also the WiFi is only accessible by the toilets.

Local attractions

This is heaven for beach buffs: Porthsele and Whitesands beaches are both within walking distance of Pencarnan. At Porthsele, take your pick from kayaking, surfing and paddleboarding from its sandy shore; if fishing's more your bag you can fish for mackerel, pollock and seabass from the beach and from certain points on the cliff around Pencarnan's land. There are also a few marked climbing spots around the cliffs on the land and some good entry points for coasteering or a coastal swim back to Porthsele beach… followed back at base with a sunset beach fire or barbecue to end the day. The famed surfing centre of Whitesands, a mile away on the coast path from Pencarnan, has a café, deckchairs and wetsuit hire, plus lifeguards in the summer months. Heading south, St Justinian’s (under a mile away along the coast path) is home to RNLI St Davids Lifeboat Station and a departure point for boat trips around, onto and beyond Ramsey Island to spy seals, seabirds, porpoises, whales, dolphins and sharks. Make time too for a trip to the tiny city of St Davids, to browse its shops and galleries and take a look at sixth-century St Davids Cathedral.
