  • Family-run site situated on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • Direct access to Porthsele beach; a mile from Whitesands
  • Farm shop, coffee hut, bar and pizzas available in high season
Fancy a stay on a family-run farm… with direct access to a beach below? Make your way to Pencarnan Farm Caravan and Camping Site, a 96-acre farm overlooking Porthsele beach on the Pembrokeshire coast. The site is on the most western tip of Pembrokeshire, with views of St Georges Channel connecting the Irish and Celtic seas. You'll be in good company with a stay here: generations of the same family have been running the site since the mid-1950s, a holiday spot for guests who return year after year – some with their kids and grandkids now in tow. This place is just the ticket for outdoor adventures too, as it's set directly above Porthsele beach (with private vehicle access so you can cart all your kit along with you). The sea and bay are safe for swimming and kayaking, and there are plenty of rockpools to explore at low tide. If you haven’t got your fill of sea breeze, surfing beach Whitesands is a one-mile walk along the coastal path or, if you’re feeling adventurous, a half-mile swim or kayak from Porthsele. Sorting supplies is easy at the farm too: in the high season, a site shop is on hand with camping and food supplies, wetsuits and logs for beach fires, and a coffee hut opens every day. A bar and pizzas are also available at peak times.

What customers say

Fantastic coastal site with beach access, great views, and a friendly vibe. Spacious pitches, well-equipped courtyard. Facilities generally good, though a bit dated. Expect wind exposure. Highly recommended for beach lovers.

3-amp Rhosson Field powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Big pitches, plenty of space, great location as you could walk to the beautiful bay beach. Good coffee/cake shop and pizza place.

Disliked The showers had power but were lukewarm warm. Also not particularly clean. I tried to cancel my booking for the dogs but their strict 30 day rule disallowed it.

Beach Field primitive grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful views from the tent pitch, grass cut lovely and short. Easy walk to both beaches, Whitesands beautiful. Cafe, shop, pizza, young kids play equipment, reception shop very good. Live music Saturday night. Wi-fi in reception / entertainment area. Plenty of bins for rubbish.

Disliked These views are my own: Receptionist rude on arrival. Shower blocks could be fantastic with a bit more investment.

Liked We had such an amazing time at Pencarnan Farm — honestly didn’t want to leave! The courtyard was lovely and chilled, perfect for sitting out with a coffee in the morning or a drink in the evening. The pizza on site was delicious, and the little shop was super handy for bits and pieces we needed.

The private beach was a real highlight. It was nice and quiet in the mornings and got a bit livelier around lunchtime. Our two-year-old daughter had the best time exploring the rock pools and spotting little sea creatures — she was in her element! We spent a day on the beach and another wandering around St David’s, which was great.

We also did a quick trip to the Blue Lagoon and even jumped in the sea — freezing but brilliant! We used Morgan’s Taxi a couple of times (recommended by the bartender) and they were great — friendly, reliable, and made things really easy.

The WiFi was brilliant!
My partner had to work while we were there and had no issues at all. It made the whole trip super easy and stress-free.

16-amp Rhosson Field powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Friendly and informative welcome. Quiet site with spacious pitches. Lovely scenic surrounding and great sunset views. Access to sites own beach which is dog friendly and suitable for swimming. Also lots of paddle boards and kayaks on the go. Courtyard area where you can find toilets, showers and washing up facilities. Also a coffee shop, pizzas, bar and shop with a little bit of everything available.
Access to a field where dogs can go off lead. Nice walks along the coastal path in both directions, and a regular bus to nearby St David’s.

Disliked Narrow access roads, but to be expected for remote location. Water supply can be an issue here, would not have been a problem in a motorhome/ caravan if knew to fill up before you arrive just in case. Three night stay and lost water every evening for different durations. This could have been shower use after lots of beach activity, but did impact on toilet flushing as well as water availability at times.
Also feel few toilets and showers for size of site.

Liked Fantastic location with their own access to a dog friendly beach. Stunning views from the beach and the coast path is adjacent to the site. The Celtic Coaster was handy for travelling to and from St Davids but it was also walkable though the lane can get quite busy.
We did arrive earlier but didnt have any problems checking in. The reception was very helpful and gave lots of information too.
The bar area provided Pizzas and also breakfast was available too. We were very lucky with the weather so tended to BBQ in the evening however did use the bar and enjoyed our Pornstar Martini cocktails.

Disliked We stayed for 3 nights and for 2 of those we had no water at all. Luckily we had prepared for the last night by adding some water into our tank so we could freshen up but felt for the many campers that hadnt got any to wash or prepare food especially the families.
I did feel that the lack of any water in the toilets was a health issue and perhaps the camp site should have offered bottled water to allow hands to be washed.
My advise would be to ensure you have a shower in the morning.

I am undecided if this issue would stop me from booking this site again as signs around site do warn that this is a recurring issue. Dont think I was aware of this before I booked and considering the cost of our stay which was over £190 for the 3 nights and was the most expensive site on our touring holiday, I do not feel it was value for money.

Liked The site was in a beautiful location with great views. The fields were large with good pitch sizes and plenty of space to play in the middle.

The toilets and showers were adequate and the shop, coffee bar, bar, pizza shack were all lovely. There was a lovely vibe around the main courtyard.

Disliked We were in a good field but some of the camping fields seemed a long way to walk up to the toilet.

There were signs warning of a limited water supply. This happened to us whilst there with no running water from mid afternoon one day until the next morning. This meant the toilets could not be flushed and there was no drinking water. Apart from one poster in the shower area there was no notice given of this and I would have expected to see more of a plan especially if this happens frequently as suggested by the warning signs. I would have expected and email/text explaining the situation with an apology and some back up plan for drinking water (deliver some bottles to each pitch) and toilet use (emergency portaloos). I didn't think it was acceptable to leave a whole campsite with no water.

I also thought the prices here were very high compared to other sites. Except for the water issue, it was one of the nicest sites we've stayed on but it was twice as expensive as our usual sites and not twice as nice.

Liked Second year back in a row.

As close to perfect as possible for us - what more can a young family want? A beach 39 seconds walk away, great facilities and St David's a few minutes away in a car.

Icing on the cake is being able to access Whitesands either by coastal path which is a perfect evening walk or by car for a beach day.

3-amp Ramsey Island Field powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Pencarnan is lovely. The pitches have great views and are spacious without crowding. The courtyard is fab.
Access to the coastal path and lovely beach.

Disliked Slightly longer walk into St Davids along the main road but this is the easy compromise.

Local attractions

This is heaven for beach buffs: Porthsele and Whitesands beaches are both within walking distance of Pencarnan. At Porthsele, take your pick from kayaking, surfing and paddleboarding from its sandy shore; if fishing's more your bag you can fish for mackerel, pollock and seabass from the beach and from certain points on the cliff around Pencarnan's land. There are also a few marked climbing spots around the cliffs on the land and some good entry points for coasteering or a coastal swim back to Porthsele beach… followed back at base with a sunset beach fire or barbecue to end the day. The famed surfing centre of Whitesands, a mile away on the coast path from Pencarnan, has a café, deckchairs and wetsuit hire, plus lifeguards in the summer months. Heading south, St Justinian’s (under a mile away along the coast path) is home to RNLI St Davids Lifeboat Station and a departure point for boat trips around, onto and beyond Ramsey Island to spy seals, seabirds, porpoises, whales, dolphins and sharks. Make time too for a trip to the tiny city of St Davids, to browse its shops and galleries and take a look at sixth-century St Davids Cathedral.
