General

  • Family-run site close to award-winning Pembrokeshire beaches
  • Licensed café/restaurant on site with home-cooked food
  • Within walking distance of Fishguard and the coastal path

You might be all of a dither about deciding days out when staying at decidedly relaxed Tregroes Caravan and Camping on the north Pembrokeshire coast. Its closest sandy beach is a mile and a half away, and, as this is Pembrokeshire, a few weeks’ worth of award-winning sands are a pushover to get to from a Tregroes base.

Eats, shops and sightseeing are sorted at the coastal town of Fishguard (and the local pubs), within a 20-minute walk. And, although the site is set in quiet countryside, it’s close enough to the A40 that it’s decidedly simple to get to an abundant amount of north Pembrokeshire attractions and activities – St Davids, for example, is less than half an hour’s drive away.

Or you might pick to simply ditch the car and catch a bus or train from Fishguard. Speaking of Fishguard, it's also where the Irish ferry departs for Rosslare – a week in Ireland either side of a Pembrokeshire holiday might sound decidedly Tre-mendous too.

Or… you might just decide to stay on base, close to the spectacular scenery of the Pembrokeshire coast, and lazing about on an extensively-sized pitch picked right where you please. The kids could run around expending energy in the ample space on site while you kick back under an awning with an aperitif watching the splendid Pembrokeshire sunset. Need more than an aperitif? Book in for home-cooked breakfasts and evening meals at the licensed café-restaurant on site.

The site location is a couple of miles outside Fishguard …10/05/2020

The site location is a couple of miles outside Fishguard and is within easy access of the town centre either walking or cycling, there is a dedicated footpath. The site is quiet and extremely well run. The welcome from the owner was really friendly. Although we didn't use it there was a restaurant on site that served breakfasts and evening meals. From conversations with other campers the restaurant was very popular and the food very good.
The toilets & showers were open with Covid19 restrictions in place. Great shower plenty of hot water and very hot water for shaving.
The pitch was hardstanding and level so no need to adjust.
From the site we visited the smallest city in theUK - St Davids. There was plenty of parking even for motorhomes. St Davids Cathedral is spectacular and a must see.
We also visited Whitesands beach which was beautiful and there was decent parking at £5 per vehicle. Be warned if your in a motorhome the road to the beach is very narrow with passing points which are manageable providing your confident.

    Disliked:

We disliked nothing about this site. I did not really like Fishguard it is a typical ferry town, but do not be put off plenty to see and do.

We had a wonderful 5 night stay here at Tregroes. When we arrived in the evening our pitch number and information was pinned to the reception door along with a WiFi code. As we were going to our pitch we were told where the toilets and restaurant were. We were booked in for 8.20 and the staff and the food were fabulous. Our dogs were welcome too. The site is stunning, peaceful and well kept. We loved our pitch which was the gravel and grass electric hookup. The owners were so lovely. There was handsanitiser everywhere including the recycling spot. The yurts, cabin and pods looked amazing too and lovely and private. The site was an excellent base for us to explore and we went to Fishguard beach and visited the Fort with amazing views. We also went to St David's, Traeth Beach and Poppit Sands where we enjoyed the icecream even the dogs had a tub. We would definitely go back and we would like to try the breakfast next time as we heard its cracking. We recommend Tregroes and had an overall lovely stay and would love to go back.

Loved everything about the site! It was so quiet and tranquil, staff were very helpful and everywhere was so neat and tidy and cared for. We stayed during very windy weather and despite this, staff were out on the ride on mower cutting the grass and doing maintenance and making sure the site was tip-top. Can’t recommend it highly enough, we really loved it and will definitely be visiting again x

Directions

Your satnav may take you off the A40 at Narberth but it is more direct to remain on A40 and travel through Haverfordwest. On the approach to Fishguard, take the turning onto Manorowen Road marked with brown tourist signs. After 300 yards you will arrive at the site.

The T5 and T11 bus services pass the top of the road and a stop can be requested.

Local attractions

Fishguard first if travelling by feet: like pretty much all the towns of the Pembrokeshire coast, it's a beaut. Hire a kayak here and take off a-paddling around Fishguard Bay – as it might be tricky manipulating both camera and paddle, have an additional day sea fishing from Fishguard Harbour and taking splendid shots of your catches as you go.

Pembrokeshire's known as one of the best places in Wales to see watery wildlife like dolphins, seals, porpoises, seabirds and – if you’re very lucky – possibly a minke whale. Several operators offer sea safaris around these parts, and plenty more are on hand for active days out coasteering, cycling, sailing, horse riding, surfing, caving and climbing.

On land, have a delve into Welsh history – the villages around Tregroes are a simple place to start, as are coastal towns like St Dogmaels with its 12th-century abbey and the Pen-Rhiw burial chambers at Goodwick just along the shore.

Apart from Powys, Pembrokeshire has more Scheduled Ancient Monuments than anywhere else in Wales: try the Garn Wen burial chamber in Fishguard, the stone circles of the Preseli Hills, the cathedral at St Davids and the long-ago cairns of Carningli Mountain.
