  • Off-grid West Wales glamping with a hillside setting near Llandovery
  • Direct access to the Cambrian Way; Brecon Beacons 20 minutes' drive
  • Firepit and solar-powered communal outdoor kitchen; a dark-skies site
Surrounded by woodland and offering up awesome views of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, Calon Y Goedwig Glamping Retreat (‘Calon y goedwig’ means ‘heart of the woods’ in Welsh) is a gorgeous little place to unwind. This glampsite is on an old farmstead in rural Carmarthenshire, about 10 minutes' drive from Llandovery (a handy place for shops, pubs and other amenities). Thanks to the lack of light pollution, this is a smashing spot for stargazing after dark, and it's also something of a wildlife haven, with a chance to spot magnificent red kites soaring above the hills, as well as buzzards, woodpeckers, owls and jays. All bedding is provided in the luxuriously appointed glamping units, alongside a cool box and freezer blocks (if required). Communal facilities include an undercover outdoor kitchen with a camping stove, kettle and barbecue (usable no matter what the Welsh weather is doing). Also amid the wildflower plantings are a picnic bench and sun loungers for putting your feet up and enjoying the backdrop of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. There’s also a composting toilet, firepit and drinkable spring water on hand, and although this eco-friendly spot has solar-powered lighting, guests are advised to bring their own torch for nocturnal wanderings. Please leave the place as you find it: burn waste food and paper and take all recycling home with you – and when out and about in the hills, always follow the Countryside Code.
