  • Well-maintained and peaceful touring pitches on a working farm
  • A 10-minute drive from Barry Island; 20 minutes from central Cardiff
  • Village setting; pub, café and bus stops within a few minutes' walk
What a splendid location for a Vale of Glamorgan break that’s packed with variety – Vishwell Farm Caravan Park is in the little village of Wenvoe and handily placed for rural walks, beach days and city days in nearby Cardiff. Access to all of the above is fairly straightforward: a 20-minute drive will get you into the centre of Cardiff for days of shopping, dining, culture and rugby, to the cute town of Cowbridge for walks and foodie treats, or to Llantwit Major for soaring cliffs and fossil-hunting on the beach. Even closer at a 10-minute drive are the seaside towns of Penarth and Barry, the latter being famed to British TV fans as the setting for Gavin and Stacey. Don’t fancy the drive? The village’s bus stops are only a couple of minutes’ walk away, with services to Cardiff and Barry. Elsewhere in the village are a good local pub and a garden centre that’s got a well-liked café – so you won’t have to go far in search of breakfasts, dinners or local ales either. It’s not all about the location though – the pitches here are well maintained too, set up as part of a peaceful working farm and with access to facilities including toilets, showers, chemical disposal and water. Dogs are welcome to join you on site here too, and there are plenty of great places to take them out for a walk nearby.

Liked Good size pitches all with electric hook up included in price, choice of gravel or grass. Showers and toilets all very new and clean. Area for washing up, bins etc also excellent. Very clean and well maintained site. As described it is peaceful and quiet.

Disliked Nothing we disliked, it was as advertised and better than expected.

We could have walked about 10 mins up the road to the local pub but we ordered a takeaway via Uber Eats instead.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Facilities were excellent. Level pitches. Close to public transport and pub.

Disliked Very impersonal, no contact with owners on check in; just pitch up on a vacant pitch. Hard standing pitches very close together, and it’s not really hard standing, just a length of tarmac.
A camp site needs rules eg to stop children kicking footballs on the field - it’s too close to campers units.
People can check in @ whatever time they like. I personally think 9.30 pm is too late for people to disturb resident campers.
No dog walk.

Liked The ease of arrival etc. Arrive, find a spot, text to say you've arrived. Spacious pitches, toilets and shower block clean. Multiple bins in order to comply with recycling. 20 mins into Cardiff City Centre, however the site felt like you were in the middle of the countryside. Loved it.

Disliked Absolutely nothing!

Liked Nice facilities all seems quite new, the showers worked well and had good waste / recycling facilities to, easy walk to the bus stop just 10 mins away.

Disliked Nothing to dislike really, the owner walked past us a few times but didn't speak which seemed a bit odd but I suppose we are all different 😉

Local attractions

The best way to explore your immediate surroundings is to head out on foot, taking in trails around Wenvoe Wood or heading off to Dinas Powys to see the ‘salmon leaps’ in the river and stop by at an ancient hill fort. Alternatively, head off to the National Trust’s Dyffryn Gardens (10 minutes’ drive/an hour’s walk) to stroll through a lovely outdoor space set up as a series of ‘outdoor rooms’, or St Fagans National Museum of History (10 minutes’ drive) for a free wander through an excellent open-air museum. You’re not far from the coast here, either, so keen walkers should also plan days out on nearby stretches of the Wales Coast Path. Llantwit Major (20 minutes) makes a good starting point for a walk taking in the sandstone cliffs of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, or you could head to Ogmore-by-Sea (half an hour) to scramble through the dunes, see the ancient castle or ride horses along the beach. For many visitors, a day at Barry Island (10 minutes) has to be on the cards too – you can join Gavin and Stacey-themed tours here, try out all the rides at the funfair or just go along for sunbathing and swimming from the sandy beach.
