Peaceful evening at pumllog

  • Back-to-basics camping with Snowdonia views on the Isle of Anglesey
  • Rhosneigr, Aberffraw and Trearddur Bay beaches within 20 mins' drive
  • Flat pitches with room for kids to play; close to shops and pubs
Set in 16 acres of arable farmland on the north-west side of Anglesey, Pumllog Farm Campsite is a peaceful spot that may feel remote – but is actually only a 15-minute drive over the Britannia Bridge and down the A55 from mainland Wales. Turn up, pick your pitch (please keep a distance from other guests) on the flat, spacious camping field and then sit back to enjoy the spectacular views across to peaks in the Snowdonia National Park (40 minutes). This is an ideal base if you’re planning a bucket-and-spade break with the kids – the sandy expanses of Trearddur Bay and Rhosneigr beach (also a good one if you’d like to test your windsurfing skills) are within a 20-minute drive. Aberffraw (15 minutes) and Newborough Forest (30 minutes) beaches both have undulating sand dunes for kids to run around on – and keep your eyes peeled at Newborough for elusive red squirrels. If you’d rather just flop into your camping chair and chill, well, that’s fine as Pumllog is full of wildlife. Birds of prey visit the fields along with pheasants, partridges and lots of rabbits. Bring a torch and you may even spot Mr Fox on his nocturnal ramblings. This is almost-wild camping, remember, so facilities are basic, but you'll have access to a portacabin with hot showers and toilets, all powered by gas and solar. Barbecues and off-ground firepits are permitted; you can pick up supplies at the local shop or stop for a beer and meal in the local pub. Llangefni (15 minutes' drive) is a handy nearby town for more extensive stocking up and eating out.

What customers say

This friendly, clean campsite boasts exceptionally spotless facilities. Guests rave about owner Norma. It's a great Anglesey base, though some note road noise and a wish for more facilities during peak season.

Primitive grass tent campsite (backpacker, solo)

Liked The site consists of one large flat field laid to grass, with tall hedges that protect from the wind. There is a small block comprising two each of showers and toilets, and a washing up area with hot water. There is a block for rubbish, with recycling facilities, and water points.
When we were there (two women, each with our own tent) there was plenty of room and a good choice of where to camp. Sites are not marked. The site provides for tents, caravans and campers, and cars can be parked by tents. This meant that the back of our small van could be used as our camp kitchen.
Pumllog camp site is well-located on the western side of Anglesey, about ten minute's drive from the beautiful beaches of Rhosneigr. There are plenty of large supermarkets twenty minute's away at Holyhead.
Anglsey has seventy-six known prehistoric sites - burial mounds and standing stones and we managed to visit a couple in our two-night stay.
The lovely owner Norma collected our fees on the first night, very reasonable at under £15 each per night. She spoke at some length of the local area and told us of the closest neolithic sites.
There are a pair of buzzards nesting in the nearby woods, a pleasure to watch as they soared on the thermals.
The site at Pumllog Farm is clean and tidy and well-maintained and comes highly recommended from the two of us, who enjoyed the peace and quiet it afforded us.
We will certainly be back, for three nights next year!
