  • Quiet dog-friendly north-west Anglesey site with sea views
  • Near the Anglesey Coast Path; 40 minutes' walk from Church Bay beach
  • Excellent spot for birdwatching, stargazing and sunset barbecues
After a secluded stay on Anglesey? Take a peek at peaceful Pengraig Campsite. Up at the isle’s most north-western point near Church Bay, it’s about as far as you can get from the mainland without actually ditching into the drink. With that far-flung setting comes a stunning sea view – one that can be gawped at for many hours from the comfort of your pitch (a recommended activity around sunset, with drink in one hand and a barbecue stoking implement in the other). See the sea from a different angle on the nearby Anglesey Coast Path or while strolling on the sands of one of the local beaches. The waves aren’t the only gazing material around here – turn your back on the coast for scenic views of Mynydd Y Garn hill, or bring binoculars for a bit of birdwatching. Once darkness falls, direct your gaze upwards; the lack of light pollution means the stars can often put on a glittering show here. This isn’t a place for folks seeking heaps of facilities and entertainment; the emphasis is very much on peace and nature. Low-key amenities include a drinking water supply, a chemical disposal point and a toilet block (with basins and proper flushing loos). If you want to venture out in search of eats, pub meals and seafood suppers are five minutes’ drive away in Church Bay, and a little supermarket 15 minutes away in Cemaes.

What customers say

This remote, peaceful site boasts stunning sea views and sunsets. Spacious pitches and clean facilities, especially the two toilets, are a highlight. The owner is praised for being friendly and attentive. Great access to coastal paths and beaches. Basic, back-to-basics experience. Minor gripes: small toilet stalls, limited phone signal.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Returned to this site again as we just love it. Peaceful, out of the way and back to basics. Great weather for our stay. Love the pitches, location and the host is a really nice guy. Always checking in on his guests. Nice addition this time was the brownies and fresh eggs via the honestly box. Great for breakfast!

Disliked Toilet stalls could be a tad bigger. Difficult to do the buisiness with knees against the door!

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked What a lovely, quiet campsite. We have a large motorhome so we’re allocated pitch No 1 at the bottom of the field. Lovely views of the sea from our pitch. Andrew the owner was really friendly and spent time every morning chatting to people. Fresh eggs and cakes were available everyday - the best chocolate brownies ever! The Welsh Coastal Path is a short walk away and there are loads of public footpaths.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Off grid camp site, with no hookup, but there were toilets, and running water, plus, fresh eggs and cakes were also available (for a small fee), and the brownies were AMAZING!
The site affords a spectacular view of the sunset in the evening, and there are walks nearby.
No 4G signal on the camp site but a short walk (50yds) across the road to a nearby field soon solved this modern day problem!

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Loved the views, had a chat with Andy the owner, really nice guy. The site is pretty off grid, if you need a phone signal walk out of the gate and to the left on the road - phone signal there is fine.

Disliked I think the toilets need an upgrade, anyone over 5ft 6inch will struggle and the privacy isnt up to much.

Local attractions

All visitors to Anglesey should angle for as much coastal time as possible. That may well include lengthy rambles on the Anglesey Coast Path (which passes close to Pengraig) and/or as many hours as you can spare for beach time. Take a 20-minute stroll to rocky Ynys y Fydlyn beach or head south for 40 minutes on foot to the (often almost empty) sands of Church Bay. Stick around in Church Bay for a glance into the past at the Swtan Heritage Museum, then drive for 25 minutes or so to Amlwch, the northernmost town in all of Wales. It may look rather sleepy now but back in the day (the late 1800s) around 10,000 people gathered here around the world’s largest copper mine. Get an idea of what the place was like back then at the town’s Copper Kingdom Centre, then take a colourful walk round the old mine at Parys Mountain. After you’ve knocked around the north for a bit, head south for visits to Beaumaris Castle (45 minutes) and Ynys Llanddwyn (50 minutes), the island dedicated to the Welsh patron saint of lovers. A photo stop by the sign for the UK’s longest town name is a must, too. Deep breath and all together now… Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (35 minutes).
